Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Speed, flexibility, reliability and innovation are the critical success factors in the eyes of the industriel paint manufacturer. These are the findings from a 2009 survey Evonik Colortrend conducted across 28 European countries. Utilising colourants and colour systems enables manufacturers to be fast and flexible in supplying the right colour in the right quality on demand. However, if colourants are simply developed with a product-to market approach, without knowing and taking all of the specific customer requirements into consideration, the chances of failure are relative high. Industrial paint systems are applied for decorative, functional and protective purposes. A negative impact on paint properties, like hardness, blocking and corrosion resistance, is usually not acceptable. The colourants must be suitable for the intended use and selection of the colourants should be based on an evaluation of all relevant aspects such as : Impact on the coating properties - Dispensability - Compatibility - Registration - Regulation.
This feature provides a detailed insight into a solution-to-customer approach. This approach helps industrial manufacturers to meet the current and future VOC limits, to reduce complexity and increase flexibility in production and logistics while paint properties are not compromised. The focus of this approach is the development of a flexible pathway. A pathway for a successful and time efficient transfer from the drawing board to globally registered NO-VOC colourants which are tailored to meet all customer-specific requirements. Findings on dispensability, stability, durability, impact on paint properties and other key properties are presented. The findings demonstrate that this tailoring concept is fit for purpose in the industrial waterborne paint market.Note de contenu : - Approach

Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author explain how dimensionally stable low-shrinkage coatings can be produced with the help of new modified curing agents.
The measuring results reveal that nowadays modern water-dilutable epoxy systems allow thick-film and dimensionally-stable, low-shrink coatings. It has been shown that the formulation largely influences the result. However, the formulator is easily able to achieve the expected results for coatings by means of a new modified curing agent. It has to be emphasised that practice-oriented values are attainable even at - for aqueous systems unfavourable temperature conditions of 8°C and increased atmospheric moisture. This way, the demands raised by the user for practical, thick-film protective coatings are fulfiled. The same applies to legal and ecological demands for the solvent and VOC-content of the formulation.Note de contenu : - Causes of shrinkage

Just in case anyone was in any doubt as to the versatility of radiation curing, the 'End-user Product Showcase' featured a range of products, sports equipment, printed circuit boards, coated metallicised using plastics that were manufactured using the technology, and a Team UV car.
This latter exhibit was used to draw attention to the fact that radiation curing is used in many varied ways in car production and listed 12 electrical and electronic applications, 5 head-lamp assembly applications, 7 graphics and identification applications, and 16 miscellaneous functional applications.Note de contenu : - Miniaturisation

Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this paper we first investigate particle size distributions of defoamer droplets in water-borne paints and inks. The size distribution of those droplets is of crucial importance for the defoaming effect. We have determined that it is influenced by different factors during manufacture and application: (1) shear rate, (2) emulsifying properties of the binder and other formulation ingredients, (3) time of incorporation and storage time, (4) viscosity ratio of defoamer droplet ηd and the matrix phase ηm and (5) the interfacial tension γmd between droplet and matrix. The given fundamental results enable better recommendations for the use of defoamer compounds and emulsions. Note de contenu : - Mechanism of defoamer activity
