Résumé : |
In the previous chapter we discussed the formulating principles and analysed the Water-based Primer with typical formulations of exterior & interior primer. Now let us go on to the interior emulsion paint formulation. Applying a coat of paint is an art. Every hue breathes a fresh wave of emotion, bringing your walls to life and filling your home with vibrant energy. These paints have to be of low VOC, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, easy washability, hiding, durability and more. Emulsion or dispersion paints are plastics dispersion paints (usually acrylic paints) in which the organic binder is dispersed in water. These may vary in terms of degree of gloss from mattto semi-glossy. They are applied to the surfaces to be coated by roller or brush, and sometimes by spraying. The paint formulations depend on whether they are intended for interior or external use. An important criterion for the selection of the binders is the minimum film forming temperature (MFT). It indicates the temperature above which, a continuous film is formed. Only incomplete film formation will take place below this limiting temperature. Styrene-acrylic dispersions (e.g. 50% in water) are very often used as binder. These form largely water-resistant films which also have good resistance properties in the un-pigmented form. A short recapitulation of what we discussed earlier on the production process is as follows. |
