Résumé : |
Metallic flake pigments pose quite a few challenges to the powder coating formulators in contrast with the liquid paints. Besides poor static charge characteristics of the metallic pigments, flow properties of resins, kinetics of pigment orientation and uniformity in spreading over the substrate during curing are few important ones amongst many that make powder coating finishes inferior compared to those of the liquid paints. In this article effort has been made to explain the fundamental differences between the liquid paints and powder coatings involving silver metallic flake pigments. The aspects like effect of particle size, resin mixing, pigment orientation etc. that a powder coating formulator need to know while working with metallic pigments, and moreover the ways and means to modify metallic flake pigments for powder coatings to bring about improved finishes are also discussed. |
