Characterization of distributive mixing in polymer processing equipment using Renyi entropies in INTERNATIONAL POLYMER PROCESSING, Vol. XVI, N° 4 (12/2001)
[article]
Titre : Characterization of distributive mixing in polymer processing equipment using Renyi entropies Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p. 315-322 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : A new method for characterization of distributive mixing in processing equipment, based on Renyi entropies, was developed. This method was applied to a twin-flight single screw extruder, in which tracer positions were determined through computer simulations of the flow field. The various entropies were calculated using particle concentrations in equal area domains of the mixer. Renyi entropies, which are function of a parameter β, were calculated for extruders of different lengths. We discuss the merit of using Renyi entropies for different values of β by pointing to the different mixing characteristics they probe. The relative Renyi entropy varies between 0 and 1 and represents a measure of distributive mixing quality, with 1 corresponding to perfect mixing and 0 corresponding to poorest mixing. We compare this new method of distributive mixing characterization to traditional ones based on the concepts of Scale and Intensity of Segregation, and the calculations based on Pairwise Correlations and Correlation Sums. The results show good agreement between the relative Renyi entropy and the traditional methods. Other advantages of the Renyi entropy such as reduced calculation time and geometric independence are discussed. For the case of a twin-flight single screw extruder, it is shown that a longer extruder is not necessarily more beneficial to distributive mixing.

In the present study, the enzymatic degradation of PLA was investigated by protease DSM and candida rugosa lipase enzymes. When the molecular weight loss in the degradation processes using protease DSM and candida rugosa lipase was examined, there was a 23?% reduction after 90 days for protease DSM, and 28?% reduction after 50 days for candida rugosa lipase. In addition, FT-IR, TGA, XRD and SEM analyses demonstrated significant changes in the characteristic, morphological and thermal structures of PLA during the enzymatic degradation processes. Titre : Chemical properties of polymers Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Tipanna Melkeri, Auteur Année de publication : 2021 Article en page(s) : p. 98-100 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Polymères -- Propriétés chimiques Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Chemical resistance is the ability of a polymeric material to maintain its original properties such as mechanical, electrical, optical etc. when exposed to certain chemicals. The chemical structure of the polymer and functional group present in it is responsible for chemical resistance. Polymers are used in plastics as well as paints. Chemical resistance testing on plastic automotive materials is essential to gauge how such parts withstand the influence of mostly aggressive, automotive fluids such as fuels, biofuels, cleaners, cooling liquids and lubricants, often in combination with high temperature fluctuations. Steel structure has to be protected from the corrosion atmosphere specially in chemical industry so these structures are painted. The polymer used in these paints are must be resistance towards acid, alkali, solvents and other reactive chemical reagent. It is important that these polymer must exhibits good chemical resistance. Polymer can be affected by two ways either the chemical reagent acts as a solvent or chemical reagent attacks the polymeric material. Factors affecting the chemical resistance of the polymer are time of exposure, temperature of exposure, concentration of reagent, stress present in polymer and other ingredients present in plastics or paint formulations.
