The comparison is made against polyurethane dispersions using the conventional macrodiols like polyether and polyester. This new class of polycarbonate macrodiols includes homopolymers derived from 2,2-dialkyl-l,3-propanediols.Films were cast from the aqueous polyurethane dispersions and evaluated according to different coating evaluation methods such as hardness, drying, solvent, acid and alkali resistance. This newly developed polycarbonate shows a high hardness, good drying property, excellent water, acid and base resistance. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Biaxially oriented Polyamide 612 (PA612) films made by double bubble tubular film extrusion were characterized. The processing characteristics of the polymer in the double bubble process were investigated. The development of crystallinity and orientation in the films was clearly considered. First bubble PA612 films showed a low level of crystallinity (X = 7.7 %). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that the first bubble PA 612 films experienced a considerable increase in glass transition temperature (Tg), cold crystallization temperature (Tc) and crystallinity during aging at room conditions. The second bubble films were more highly crystalline (X = 22 to 28 %) with poorly grown β unit cells. The WAXD and SAXS patterns showed that the crystallites of double bubble PA612 films became more perfect by annealing in a boiling 20 % formic acid solution, resulting in a well-developed triclinic α crystals coexisting with minor proportion of β phase. the WAXD and SAXS patterns indicated that crystallographic planes and lamellae in the second bubble films were oriented depending on SBUR x SDDR (second blow-up ratio x second draw down ratio). White-Spruiell biaxial orientation factors were calculated with the WAXD pole figure data. The hydrogen bonding (0k0) planes of biaxial double bubble films were found by WAXD to be aligned parallel to the sheet surface before and after annealing. Terpolymère acrylonitrile butadiène styrèneIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Structure of paint/polymer interface was investigated for the injection molded and compression molded ABS specimens. For the interface of the injection molded specimen, a peculiar “zigzag” structure formation of several tens µm in size was observed. In contrast, the interface structure was not observed for the compression molded specimen and injection molded specimen annealed above the glass transition temperature (Tg). These facts indicate that the interface structure is related to the residual stress and molecular orientation at the surface of the injection molding specimen, because both surface structures would be removed by annealing at temperatures above Tg. The interface structure was strongly dependent on the curing agent concentration. The depth of the structure decreased with increasing curing agent concentration because of decreasing in curing time. At painting temperature between 70 °C and 130 °C, the depth and pitch were constant. However, below 60 °C and above 140 °C, the depth and pitch were changed. These results strongly suggest that the interface structure is attributable to relaxation of the surface residual stress and molecular orientation by paint soaking. Taguchi, Méthodes de (Contrôle de qualité)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Ink wash-off has been one of the problems that has confounded the overall success of the in-mold decoration (IMD) process for injection molded parts. In this report, an experimental matrix design based on the Taguchi method was conducted to examine the influence of processing parameters on the ink washoff of molded parts. The resins used in the study were 20% glass fiber filled poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). A commercially available PET film pre-printed with grids was employed to prepare the parts. Specimens of three different thicknesses were molded using a pin injection gate on an injection molding machine with a reciprocating screw system. After molding, the severity of ink washoff was determined by an image analysis program. The experimental results suggested that molded composite parts of smaller thicknesses exhibited more severe ink washoff. For the parameters selected in the experiments, the melt temperature and mold temperature were found to be the principal factors affecting the ink failure of IMD injection molded composites. Furthermore, numerical simulations using a commercially available code were completed to better understand the mechanism of the ink washoff problem. The calculated results suggested that the ink was mainly washed off by the high shear stress of hot polymer melts. It is shown that the formation mechanisms of ink washoff can be explained, and, this being done, steps can be taken to ensure that the washoff is minimized. This provides significant advantages in terms of improved product quality. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : materials and experimental setup - Molding parameters
