Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Effects of organoclay contents on the startup flow properties of layered nano-scale particles in the simple shear mode are investigated. The addition of small amounts of nanoclays to polypropylene melts was found to dramatically change the flow characteristics and creates stress overshoots at large shear rates. A rheological model, initially developed for studying the motion of a group of symmetric ellipsoid particles in viscoelastic fluids was used to describe the orientation state of the uniformly dispersed suspensions of layered silicate in polypropylene melts. The effects of shear, particle loadings, particle interactions, flow reversal and rest time after cession of shear are studied and discussed according to our experimental observations and model predictions. It is shown that another diffusion term in the governing equation for the particles can be used to predict the properties by applying the rest time which was found to change the orientation of particles and shifts it to more isotropic microstructures. The experimental results of the startup viscosity are reasonably well predicted by the model at the three shear rates tested. PoudresIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Experimental studies have been carried out for single screw extrusion of PP/wood flour composite of different concentrations of wood flour. A “screw pull-out” technique was used for investigation of the material transport, melting and screw filling. The effect of the screw speed was investigated. It was concluded that WPC extrusion is substantially different from thermoplastics extrusion. Material transport and melting are strongly dependent on the WPC composition, and operating conditions. The contiguous solids melting mechanism CSM is not observed for WPC of high WF content; however, it may be observed for WPC of lower WF content, up to 50% WF. Several steps of the process are distinguished: material compaction in the solid conveying section close to the active flight and then spreading to the rest of the material, melting which is strongly dependent on the material composition, and shear or plug flow with slipping at the walls in the melt conveying section. Titre : Experimental study of melting in an intermeshing counter-rotation twin screw Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Krzysztof J. Wilczynski, Auteur ; J. L. White, Auteur Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p. 257-262 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : An experimental study is presented of the melting mechanism in a starve fed closely intermeshing counter-rotating twin screw extruder of a modular Leistritz design. Polypropylene and low density polyethylene as well as different screw configurations of thick flighted and thin flighted elements were investigated, at various operating conditions. A "Screw Pulling-out Technique" was used to characterize polymer behaviour along the screw axis. In particular, the solid conveying, melting positions, the extent of starved character along the screw, and the fully filled region were observed. Polymer samples were stripped off from each screw which was removed from the machine to investigate melting mechanism. Generally, it was concluded that the melt mechanism consists of pellets being dragged into the calendering gap where they are melted due to calendering action. In the case of thick flighted screws, the molten polymer is expelled from the gap and pushes against the pellet bed which is continuously dragged into the gap. Most developing countries have hot climate, ordinary jobsites characterized by reduced of human resources, equipment and infrastructures. The objective of this article is to make an experimental study of the influence of the hot climate such as that of Algeria, on the different properties of concrete in the fresh state, such as excessive water evaporation from the concrete surface, increased demand for water, increased slump loss corresponding to additional water on job-site, higher plastic shrinkage cracking and difficulty in controlling air content. At the hardened state, we could mention a reduction of strength at 28 days, decreased durability resulting from cracking at long-term period.
To show the problems linked to concreting under these conditions and to present the appropriate solutions concrete or mortar can withstand the conditions in which it is implemented. Thus, negative effects caused principally by hot weather concreting motivated the choice of the such study. The research experimental work conditions in which the cementitious matrix was kept concerned two different environments, namely hot and dry climate conditions (t = 40°, h = 0%) alike the climate of the region of M'sila., and that of a medium with a hot and humid environment (t = 40°, h = 100%). The output of the investigation demonstrated the crucial role of the cure method in hot regions. The comparison of results for a reference concrete kept in air without any curing measures with two curing types simulating hot weather environment of the region M’sila was undertaken. These obtained outcome results were discussed based on the influence of climatic conditions to conclude procedures for hot weather concreting and suitable cure methods.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS
