Current studies show that evacuating the mold cavity with venturi nozzles before injection molding can eliminate the weld seam weakness that occurs in thermoset injection molding. Température -- ContrôleIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Extrusion blow molding enables cost-effective production of hollow plastic articles with complex geometries and differing volumes. One disadvantage, however, is that blow-molded components often fail at the weld line. Variothermal temperature control can be utilized to significantly improve the quality of the weld line. Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Weld lines reduce the strength of injection molded parts – a problem that can hardly be avoided in product development. Therefore, an integrative calculation method was developed at IKV in Aachen, Germany, to predict the weld line strength of amorphous thermoplastics at an early stage. The method was successfully tested for polystyrene. Note de contenu : - The weld line strength of polystyrene

Tuyaux de gazIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Induction heating for cold weather pipeline girth welds - In 2013, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) did not have a specific standard or guidance for selection, application and inspection of cold weather, field-applied coatings on transmission piping when the pipe surface temperatures went below 50 F (10 C). In November of that year, unusually cold weather hit northern California. Night temperatures were below freezing, which caused the pipe surface to be below the 50 F minimum necessary to cure the approved epoxy coatings.
At this time, the application procedure consisted of enclosing the work area and using space heaters to raise the ambient temperature sufficient to increase the pipe temperature. This approach was costly and cumbersome, and resulted in cure times of 6-to-10 hours or more. With these long cure times, construction crews could not quickly backfill the pipelines, and corresponding construction production rates were slow and costs high.Note de contenu : - COLD WEATHER COATING CHALLENGES

Soudures -- AnalyseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : New welding technologies have been implemented in the polymer processing industry in the past few years. Additionally, the most used polymer in complex products is polypropylene. This material can also be mixed with several additives, namely glass fiber, carbon nanotubes, etc. This compatibility with different additives allows products with characteristics that range from impact absorption to electrical conductivity. When it is necessary to join components in PP, they can be welded by hot plate, ultrasonic or laser welding. The present research aims at studying the influence of variables capable of influencing the final quality of the seam, namely those related to injection molding, such as mold temperature and cooling time, laser welding variables and materials, and how laser welding interacts with PP. The results showed that the most influential variables were mold temperature, laser velocity and laser diameter. The seams were analyzed using optical microscopy. They showed perfect contact between the components, despite the high standard variation present in the mechanical tests.
