Tannage Résumé : Chromium is the most commonly used tanning agent in the leather industry worldwide due to the good characteristics it adds to the leather. However, it is known that chromium III may oxidize to chromium VI and damage the environment. Based on this context, the industry has vegetable tanning as one of the options that provide leather with different characteristics when compared to the characteristics provided by tanning with salts of chromium. Thus, this study intends to develop a product which is combined with vegetable tanning and brings better characteristics to chrome-free leather. This process raises the quality of the final product, that is, it improves the tanning by combining tannins (acacia and chestnut) with acrylic resin. The methodology consisted of employing six different tanning processes. Firstly, the tanning agents were used alone; secondly, there was the addition of acrylic resin; and, finally, the use of the acrylic resin with tannins. Organoleptic properties, light fastness, shrinkage temperature, and physical-mechanical tests were performed in order to test the quality of the leathers obtained. In the residual baths, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen, and total solids were evaluated. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that the best results were found with the use of chestnut tannin and acrylic resin separately and with the use of acacia mixed with chestnut tannin, which demonstrated that combined vegetable tanning can be an alternative to the production of chrome-free leather with good properties. Titre : Tanning with aluminum-gallic acid complex : a new way to improve the tanning effect of aluminum effects Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hanyu Su, Auteur ; Guoying Li, Auteur Année de publication : 2021 Article en page(s) : p. 100-110 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Tannage Résumé : To figure out how polyphenol compounds with a low molecular weight helped in aluminum tannage, a complex of gallic acid and aluminum as well as its application to the tanning of hide powder was studied in this paper. Precipitation points of aluminum chloride solution with different concentrations of gallic acid were measured to guide the basification in hide powder tannage. UV-Visible spectra showed that gallic acid and aluminum would form soluble complexes in aqueous solution and the complexation reaction was pH reliable. Through stoichiometry studies, generations of the 1:2 complex under pH 4.0 and 2:3 complex under pH 4.5 were discovered. Results of stoichiometry studies and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra confirmed that aluminum-gallic acid complex played the role of links which connected collagen molecules rather than gallic acid or aluminum forming individual bridges with collagen. According to the results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravity analysis (TGA), denaturation temperature (Td) of hide powder tanned with different methods, such as aluminum, gallic acid-aluminum combination or aluminum-gallic acid complex, was 76.1°, 82.8° and 85.5°C respectively, and the initial decomposition temperature for the aluminum-gallic acid complex tannage was 300.7°C, also higher than those for another two methods. Furthermore, the results of inductive coupled plasma emission spectroscopy (ICP) showed that after washing for 12 h, the Al2O3 content in hide powder tanned with complex could be maintained at 93.42% of that in unwashed samples, which was the highest among three tanning methods.

Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Hydroxyapatite(HAP) has been extensively used in clinics for such as bone tissue repair because of its outstanding performance. But, whether HAP can be utilized in other fields still remains unknown, for example leather making. In the present work HAP was synthesized using a hydrothermal method with diammonium hydrogen phosphate and calcium nitrate as phosphorus and calcium precursors respectively. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis of products shows that HAP can be produced using the wet-chemical method. The condition optimization test results indicated that high purity HAP can be obtained when the reaction was carried out at 80°C and pH11 with surfactant added and ultrasonic treatment for 8 hours. To study the effect of HAP on cow hide and whether it can be used as tanning agent, vitro and vivo tests of adding HAP into cow hide were conducted. The cow hide was first treated in the wet end process of leather making and then cut into several parts. The parts were treated using different HAP addition methods and the experimental results were compared under different conditions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis indicated that HAP can react with the cow hide using both methods. Cow hide physicochemical properties were improved after reaction with HAP, the thermal stability was especially enhanced. The thermal shrinkage temperature of the treated hide was 78°C which was higher than the sample in the control group of 54°C. The hide tensile strength was greatly enhanced because HAP penetrated into the hide and reacted on hide collagen. So, HAP has the potential to be used as chrome-free tannage. This meant that the modification of cow hide by HAP was feasible and HAP tannage or HAP combination tannage was of practical significance. Tannage Résumé : Using mimosa as a vegetable tanning agent and oxazolidine as an aldehydic tanning agent, the approaches of hydrothermal analysis, hydrogen bond and hydrophobic bond breaking as well as chemical modifications of collagen were employed to investigate the effects of hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic bonds and side amino groups of collagen on vegetable tanning, aldehyde tanning and vegetable-aldehyde combination tanning The results indicated that the aldehyde should still predominantly react with the side amino group of collagen even when added after vegetable tanning. However, the aldehyde could further react with the vegetable tannin and thus form a cross-linkage between collagen and the vegetable tannin if high-activity nucleophilic sites are present in the tannin molecules. As a result, the synergistic effect of the combination tanning on increasing the hydrothermal stability of collagen fibres was achieved and the combined stability of vegetable tannin and collagen was strengthened remarkably. This mechanism is appropriate for describing combination tanning with condensed tannins which contain nucleophilic sites. However, with hydrolysable tannins, no aldehydic cross-linkage between collagen and tannin could be observed.
In general, this research revealed that vegetable-aldehyde combination tanning has features which are different from those previously assumed. According to the mechanism suggested in this paper, all the phenomena relating to vegetable tannin -aldehyde-collagen interactions can be well understood.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS :
