(Wikipedia)

The structure of PVA-Pcs and their intermediates are determined by a combination of Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopies. On the other hand, the effect of Pc-Al loading by mole (PVA-N3:Pc-Al = 10:1 and 10:2) on the wettability, thermal and antibacterial properties of achieved final products is investigated, utilizing water contact angle (WCA) measurements, thermogravimetric (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses, and antibacterial activity tests, respectively. Based on the WCA, TGA, and DSC analyses of PVA-Pcs, it is found that utilizing a higher loading of Pc-Al in the CuAAC reaction medium enhances the WCA and thermal properties of resulted products. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity tests against both Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium) and Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes) revealed the higher inhibition effect of PVA-Pcs compared to neat PVA, some prevalent antibiotics and control samples. Thus, PVA-Pcs are promising materials that can be used in different application areas requiring lower wettability and higher thermal and antibacterial properties. Note de contenu : - Materials

Toxicologie cellulaireIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based contact-active antimicrobial surfaces were successfully fabricated via the spray coating method. For this purpose, firstly two separate antimicrobial polymers were synthesized by introducing alkyne functionalized quaternary ammonium salt into clickable copolymer containing 30 mol% and 5 mol% of quaternary ammonium salt on their backbones. Then, these synthesized polymers were applied to coat one surface of the neat PLA films (PLA/PEG, 90/10) at the rate of 5, 15, and 25 times, respectively. Afterward, the biocidal effect of these films was considered against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria by the way of contact-active method. It was observed that the films coated with polymer containing 30 mol% of quaternary ammonium salt (QAS), even at the lowest coating amount, showed a considerably active antimicrobial property against both bacteria. The thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties of coated films were also investigated. In addition, a cytotoxicity test was performed, and it was found that the PLA film was nontoxic when it was coated with polymer containing 5 mol% of quaternary ammonium salt, even at a high coating amount. For a polymer containing 30 mol% of quaternary ammonium salt on its backbone, it was necessary to coat the films at a low rate for acceptable cytotoxicity. In conclusion, due to the contact-active behavior of covalently attached antimicrobial agents, high antibacterial activity, suitable mechanical properties, and acceptable cytocompatibility, these antimicrobial surfaces can be considered as a potential candidate for bio-based materials.

Then, Michael addition reaction between malonate polyester and diphenylmethane bismaleimide (BDM), catalyzed by 1, 8-diazabicyclo [5.4.0] undec-7-ene (DBU)/benzoic acid salt, was carried out to prepare the films with different contents of curing agent. The thermal and mechanical properties of the films were characterized by dynamic thermomechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. We found that glass transition temperature (Tg) of the films increased with the increase in BDM amount. The Tg could reach up to 80°C, which indicated that the fabricated films show excellent thermal stability. Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylate latices were prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) in presence of urushiol with multifunctional groups (0–6 wt%). The emulsion polymerization was strongly influenced by the urushiol content. With increasing urushiol content, the conversion rate of the monomers first increased then decreased, the stability of emulsion polymerization gradually declined, the average particle size of the latex increased from 115.9 to 175.3 nm, and a change from mono- to bimodal particle size distribution occurred. Interestingly, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that some particles were connected by linear bridges in presence of urushiol. Based on results of 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, such formation of interparticle bridges is due to participation of urushiol in the emulsion polymerization of the acrylate monomers. The content of urushiol also affected the properties of latex films. With increasing urushiol content from 0 to 3 wt%, the adhesion, pencil hardness, and contact angle were markedly improved from grade 6 to grade 2, from B to 3H, and from 22° to 61°, respectively, due to formation of interparticle bridges. When the content of urushiol exceeded 3 wt%, the adhesion and pencil hardness remained unchanged, but the water contact angle markedly declined because of higher surface roughness of the latex film. Furthermore, addition of urushiol enhanced the thermal stability of the latex films.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The curing process of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) coating was systematically investigated by nonisothermal differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and accordingly, the thermodynamic as well as kinetic parameters were obtained. Meanwhile, effect of structural factors, including different divinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (ViPDMSVi), divinyl-terminated polymethylvinylsiloxane (ViPMVSVi), polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS), and reinforcing filler content, on mechanical and thermal properties of coating was studied. The results demonstrated that platinum compounds could significantly accelerate the hydrosilylation and reduce the curing temperature and activation energy. The viscosity, vinyl/hydrogen sites, and quantities of ViPDMSVi, ViPMVSVi, and PMHS were important factors to influence mechanical and thermal properties. Low viscosity ViPDMSVi and PMHS with side hydrogen atoms could increase crosslinking density, and then enhance the tensile strength and heat resistance. ViPMVSVi with higher viscosity and vinyl content could dramatically improve tensile strength while maintaining breaking elongation. Reinforcing filler was another vital factor to enhance strength and thermostability. 550% improvement in tensile strength occurred when reinforcing filler content was 40 wt%. All aforementioned results provided a comprehensive guidance for the preparation and property regulation of PDMS coating. This kind of PDMS coating can be applied in synthetic leather manufacturing.
