les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This study treats the transport of solvents in a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and influence on mechanical bulk properties. The selected substrate and solvents represent materials used in coatings on plastics. The swelling of TPO was found to depend on the temperature and, in accordance with Hansen’s concept of solubility, revealing the following order of swelling power for solvent types: aromatic hydrocarbons ≫ esters > alcohols. Absorption of TPO by the solvent xylene at 20 and 80°C allowed for the calculation of a diffusion coefficient. Complete release of xylene was found to last several months. Recovered TPO samples were of slightly lower weight, reduced E-modulus and tensile strength compared to the original state. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Methods and materials

Soudage laserIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Laser transmission welding involves joining of transmitting and absorbing thermoplastic polymer components. Absorption is normally controlled by addition of small amounts of carbon black (CB). In thermal modelling of the process, the laser-light absorption coefficient is an important parameter that controls the rate and distribution of heat generation in the absorbing component. This paper introduces a novel experimental method to conveniently and accurately measure the absorption coefficient in the absorbing component. In this method, a laser beam scans rapidly over the surface of the CB-filled polymer. The laser power resulting in the onset of surface melting can be obtained and used to calculate the absorption coefficient based on an analytical model presented in this paper. To validate the proposed method, the experimental results were compared with those obtained by the spectrophotometer and the power-meter methods using unreinforced and glass-fiber reinforced nylon 6. The results indicate that there is a linear relationship between the absorption coefficient and carbon black level for these two polymers. The influence of glass fibers and laser scan speed on the measurement are also discussed. Ions métalliquesIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : SeaCell fibers (cellulose fibers with seaweed extracts by smartfiber AG, Rudolstadt/germany) were treated with aqueous copper chloride solution to prepare copper containing fibers. Experimental results showed that because of the alginate rich seaweed particles dispersed in the fiber structure, SeaCell fibers have good absorption properties for copper ions, with the equilibrium absorption capacity for copper ion at about 7 mg/g. The absorption of copper ion by SeaCell fibers is a relatively fast process, with most of the absorption completed within 30 min. It is possible to prepare SeaCell fibers containing different amounts of copper ions by controlling the copper ion concentration in the treatment solution.
