The current study presents a process for the coloration of wool fabric using peroxidase oxidation of a range of different aromatic compounds in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The results revealed that wool can be successfully dyed by peroxidase-catalysed coloration at temperatures as low as 30°C. By controlling the pH values and buffer systems during processing, a diverse colour palette was produced, depending on the small molecular aromatic compound used as the precursor. Colour fastness testing found that fastness to washing, rubbing and light properties achieved good to excellent ratings, with further improvement to wash fastness provided by a post-soaping wash. No fibre damage occurred due to peroxidase-catalysed coloration. This enzyme coloration process is a promising alternative to conventional wool dyeing processes with the advantage of effective dyeing at low temperatures, therefore having the potential of reducing energy consumption and preventing fibre damage. Textiles et tissus imprimésIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The application of a series of commercial photochromic dyes to polyester fabric by a digital inkjet printing method was investigated. Solvent-based ink systems using the dyes were formulated. The inks were characterised in terms of their physical properties which are related to the jettability of the inks, and finally the prints were fixed onto polyester fabrics by thermal fixation. Colour measurement of the printed fabrics was used to measure their degree of photocoloration, fading rate, fatigue resistance, and storage stabilities. The measured properties of the inkjet-printed fabrics were compared with the same properties of the same dyes applied to polyester fabrics by dyeing methods. The printed fabrics demonstrated inferior performance in terms of the degree of photocoloration, superior performance in the case of background colours, a higher rate of fading, and a lower fatigue resistance compared with that shown by the same dyes applied to polyester fabric by dyeing methods. Réflectivité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recent advances in pigmentation technology have allowed formulators to achieve a greater infrared reflectivity in functional coatings compared to traditional pigmentation technologies. The technology also maintains the appropriate light absorption in the visible spectrum, to impart colour.
The ability of functional infrared reflective coating systems to lower heat build-up results in reduced thermal warpage, reduced thermal cycling degradation, lower energy costs related to cooling and improved comfort and functionality of dark colour exterior objects such as park benches, hand railings and even polymer concrete. This paper will explore advances in infrared pigmentation technology to the reader, and explore potential new applications of infrared reflective pigmentation technology in composites.
Rising energy costs continue to drive advances in new technologies designed to improve energy efficiency. One such technology is the use of specialty infrared reflective pigments used to impart colour to an object and reflect the invisible heat from the object to minimise heat build-up, when exposed to solar irradiance. Ultimately, the reflection of infrared energy lowers the heat build-up resulting in a reduction on the load of the cooling system and therefore achieving cost savings.
In order to understand and maximise the functional mechanisms and effects of infrared reflecting pigmentation technologies, one musts understand the sciences regarding solar radiation, black and gray body radiation, emissivity, reflectance, total solar reflectance, light scattering, light absorption, and relevant test methods.Note de contenu : - Electromagnetic radiation
