Natural fiber reinforced plastics - Natural resources and how to properly use them / Jonas Broening in TECHNICAL TEXTILES, Vol. 65, N° 5 (12/2022)
[article]
Titre : Natural fiber reinforced plastics - Natural resources and how to properly use them Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jonas Broening, Auteur ; Frederik Cloppenburg, Auteur ; Thomas Gries, Auteur Année de publication : 2022 Article en page(s) : p. 294-295 Note générale : Bibliogr.

NontissésIndex. décimale : 677.46 Cellulosiques : rayonnes, acetates Résumé : In the NaturePerformance project, natural fibers and their properties, in particular the fluctuation within the mechanical properties, are being investigated. Based on the properties of the natural fibers, the design of the final components is to be facilitated and made more efficient. The most commonly used process chain with fibers native to Europe and Germany, hemp and flax, will be used. Note de contenu : - Figure : Goals of the project

In this present study, we have prepared sound absorbing materials from chrome shavings by blending with suitable synthetic and natural polymers via compression molding technique. Polypropylene (PP), was chosen as a synthetic polymer to improve the blending and natural fibers such as cotton, jute and kapok have been chosen for their porous nature. The composites were prepared, and their morphology was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The sound absorption of the prepared composites has been measured using Impedance tube method. The results suggest that composites blended with polypropylene exhibit more than 90% sound absorption in the mid frequency range. This study shows that chrome shavings in combination with natural fibers can be used as good sound absorption materials. Thus, the proposed approach paves the way for utilization of a leather waste to reduce noise pollution. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Materials - Methods.
