The product, chlorinated-maleinized guayule rubber (CMGR), is a potential crosslinker/additive for powder coating formulations. Accordingly, polyester-hydroxyalkyl-amide and epoxy-polyester hybrid powder coating formulations were developed, applied, tested, and contrasted to properties of commercial powder coating formulations. The coatings featured reduced gloss, surface texturing, and physical property characteristics equal to or exceeding those derived from commercial powder coating formulations. Thus, CMGR is a promising reactive crosslinker for powder coatings. Getting it right first time is always a worthwhile challenge as this leads to speedy and timely delivery and the opportunity to put a new product onto the market ahead of the competition. To achieve this, the tanner needs to know how best the finished product will match customer needs, primarily through selecting the most competitively priced raw material.
Having decided this, there still remain many process choices from beamhouse through to finishing. Usually there are many reference points from which existing processes may be adopted and this is the safest and easiest way to begin.Note de contenu : - MEETING THE SPECIFICATION : A white full grain shoe upper leather - Super-soft sheepskin garment leather

Many of the finished leather manufacturers source their wet blue leathers from various regions or tanners. In order to have uniformity of metal oxide content, almost all the leathers are rechromed. For this, the industry employs masked chromium(III) salts provided by the leather auxiliary industry in the form of complexes co-linked to phenol/ naphthalene condensates. Also, tanners who use hides/skins from ill fed animals treat their tanned substrate with melamine condensates, so as to get a preferential filling of the belly region. Metal ion complexes co-linked to melamine condensates are rather scarce. For the first time, this paper reports the application studies using a chromium melamine condensate devoid of formaldehyde as cross linker. The said product has been employed in rechroming and evaluated for multiple properties such as providing an equalization of chrome content and filling of belly region. Our studies clearly indicate a marked advantage of employing such a product in the place of commercial chrome syntans alongside melamine condensates, more so for ill fed cowhides. Catalyseurs

Tannage Résumé : In this study we present an industrial-scaled tanning process intended to replace chrome tanning in the production of high quality bovine shoe upper leathers using a combined tannage based on a mimosa and oxazolidine as crosslinking agent. This paper reports the best recipe developed and the properties of the leather obtained. The various test results and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations which were used as investigative methods to follow the tanning process steps and to better understand the cross-linking mechanisms, are detailed together with the characterisation of the effluents. The leather obtained is characterised by a good hydrothermal stability coupled with good physical and technical properties which allow it to easily comply with the standards required for high quality chromium-tanned bovine upper leather. The results obtained suggest that this tannage is a promising alternative to traditional chrome tanning. Note de contenu : - Interactions between the collagen structure, mimosa, and oxazolidine
