StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The human skin, and mainly the upper layer of the epidermis, plays the role of a barrier, but is also one of the first and major targets of air pollutants, pollutants contributing to wrinkle and dark sports occurrence through the redox imbalance. A possible approach to attack ROS-mediated disorders for both preventive and treatment means is based on the use of substances, which can be found in plants as secondary metabolites, lignans being a promise candidate. The present study was aimed to better understand the cellular mechanisms beyond the oxidative changes induced by urban pollution (Urban dust 1649b, NIST) and the effect of Schisandra chinensis (S. chinensis) extract in reconstructed human epidermis, by a transcriptomic approach and secondly through the evaluation of Nrf2, AhR, NF-kB, and DJ-1 pathways using an in vitro model. Finally, we evaluated the effect of S. chinensis on skin hydration, homogeneity, radiance and luminosity in Chengdu (China). Urban dust (80pg.ml") was able to activate the cytoplasmic expression of NF-kB and AhR when compared to control. S.chinensis extract attenuated the urban dust-induced oxidative stress, the protective mechanism being associated, at least in part, with the modulation of the Nrf2 and AhR pathways and the activation of DJ-1. S. chinensis extract, named Urbalys protects from prolonged pollution aggression since it improves hydration, protects skin homogeneity, increases skin radiance and attenuates skin spot intensity after 21 days of pollution exposition. SébumIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Derived from the green fractionation of mango leaves, Mangixylâ„¢ (also referred as 'Mangifera Indica leaves active') is an effective cosmetic ingredient that is microbiome-friendly with proven efficacy targeting oil skin through sebum regulation. The cosmetic innovation activates specific receptors of gene’s pathway normally regulated by the highly potent retinoic acid.
In an era where sustainability and traceability are top of mind for consumers, the sourcing story of Mangixylâ„¢ highlights our commitment to our Company Purpose. The mango leaves are collected in collaboration with the Association Bendia, based in Koro village (Burkina Faso, Africa). The association is a women-led initiative to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the community. Thus, Mangifera Indica leaves active is an ingredient good for the consumers, good for the planet and good for the people. This ingredient aims to relieve consumers from the discomfort caused by oily skin. It activates some receptors of the retinoic acid-regulated genes pathway and decreases in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo the synthesis of lipids on all skin ethnicities. Additional clinical data showed efficacy against prone-to-acne skin, and on the regulation of sebum on scalp hair. Amidst the current COVID-19 crisis, it also provides an effective response to the "maskne" phenomenon which has been gaining momentum lately.Note de contenu : - Sourced responsibly

Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Subjects - Cities, weather conditions - Protocol - Pictures acquisitions - Evaluation and grading of facial skin aging signs - Appraisals by a naïve panel ( perceptions by 'the others') - Statistics

Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Formulation - Study design - Biometric parameters - Statistical analysis

Accordingly, we aimed to characterize skin of African descent (African American skin) versus Caucasian skin through biophysical and clinical investigations. Additionally, clinical changes in some skin features as a function of age are reported.
In a first study, in vivo biophysical experiments were performed on the skin of 130 African American and 80 Caucasian women aged 18 to 87 living in the U.S. They included determination of the skin microrelief, color and color evenness, sebaceous function, surface hydration, mechanical properties, and skin structures (epidermis, subepidermal non-echogenic band, dermal epidermal junction, papillary-dermis and dermis). A second study involved a larger cohort of 200 African American and Caucasian women, aged 18-87, who were split into twelve matched 5-year age groups, in order to record age-related changes. Standardized photographs of the face were taken, focusing on various skin features. These included eye bags, under eye wrinkles, crow's feet.
These studies revealed that most of these skin features are common to both the Caucasian and African American populations. Nevertheless, some features were more prominent in or specific to the African American population including
• thicker epidermis and dermal-epidermal junction,
• thicker papillary dermis,
• stronger mechanical properties,
• specific clinical signs such as less depth of vertical upper lip wrinkles and
• more hyperpigmetation as well as pig mentary growths.
Moreover, clinical results showed that expression lines and tissue sagging appear at a later age in this population.
In addition, African American and Caucasian atlases were developed that can be used as an objective tool to evaluate product effectiveness, compare as well as identify the best products, and support efficacy claims.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Study 1 - Biophysical measurements - Color heterogeneity - Sebaceous function - Thickness of the dermal-epidermal junction and epidermis - Study 2 - Clinical
