Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Although present in relatively low concentrations, additives such as thickeners, rheology modifiers, dispersants, and surfactants can contribute to the water sensitivity of coatings due to their inherent affinity for moisture. Because of the number of additives often present and the variable response possible within different formulations, a method was sought to examine the moisture affinity of individual additives in the absence of other coating components. A simple gravimetric procedure with high sensitivity and good repeatability was developed based on water vapor sorption (WVS). In this paper, the technique is applied to a variety of commercial thickeners and rheology modifiers commonly employed in waterborne coatings. Although alkali-swellable emulsions of the conventional (ASE) and associative (HASE) varieties are generally considered to be more water sensitive than nonionic thickener types, these carboxyl functional polymers in their acid form actually showed much lower moisture affinities. WVS for the anionic ASE and HASE thickeners was a function of polymer composition, type of counter ion, base volatility, dry time, and the state of neutralization prior to conducting the test. Tannage Résumé : In this paper, montmorillonite (MMT) was first modified with dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride (referred to as DMDAAC) and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) through a cation exchanging reaction. The modified MMT and the vinyl polymer were then used to prepare composites which were then characterized by XRD. Finally, the vinyl polymer/CTAB modified MMT (abbreviated to VP/C-MMT) was applied in the leather making process to examine its tanning properties.
The results of XRD show that the interlayer spacing of the modified MMT is received are 1.40nm and 1.99nm for DMDAAC-MMT and CTAB-MMT respectively, while the d-spacing distance of pristine MMT is only 1.23nm. The composites of DMDAAC modified MMT and VP are phase separated, while CTAB modified MMT formed intercalated nanocomposites with VP.
The application results show, that the shrinkage temperature of leather tanned by VP/C-MMT nano-tannage associated with 2% chrome under optimum process conditions can be raised to 90°C, the strength properties and the water permeability of tanned leather are closely similar to those of a 8% chrome tanned leather, meanwhile, the incrassation rates [thickness increment ratios] are far geater than for the 8% chrome tanned leather. We conclude that the nano tannage is an appropriate application in a reduced-chrome tannage.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Major chemicals - Synthesis of vinyl polymer - Preparation of modified MMT - Preparation of composites - Application of VP/C-MMT nano tannage - Characterization and measurement

Surfaces (Physique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study employed solid hot stretching technology to produce successfully specifically oriented polylactic acid (PLA) while investigating the impact of orientation structure on its photo-oxidation aging properties. After orientation, the molecular weight and mechanical properties retention rate of PLA were improved, and the crystallinity (Xc) increased in conjunction with prolonged aging time, while the molecular orientation failed to modify the mechanism responsible for PLA deterioration. Furthermore, an examination regarding the way in which the photo-oxidation stability of PLA was enhanced, demonstrated that the increased Xc and structural orientation were beneficial for delaying the photo-oxidation aging of PLA.
Index. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : The microcapsules with the function of phase transition temperature were added to the spinning solution, and the nano-fibers with phase transition function were spun by electrospinning. These fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analyser. The results show : the fibers are flat and smooth and the diameter of fiber increases with the increase of the content of microcapsules; the fiber has a certain phase change function, but the phase change temperature and the phase change enthalpy have nothing to do with the content of the microcapsules ; the fiber has good thermal stability.
