Repercussion of cenosphere filler size on mechanical and dry sliding wear peculiarity of glass fiber-reinforced polyester composites using Taguchi analysis and neural network / Akant Kumar Singh in INTERNATIONAL POLYMER PROCESSING, Vol. XXX, N° 3 (07/2015)

Titre : Repercussion of cenosphere filler size on mechanical and dry sliding wear peculiarity of glass fiber-reinforced polyester composites using Taguchi analysis and neural network Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Akant Kumar Singh, Auteur Année de publication : 2015 Article en page(s) : p. 403-421 Note générale : Bibliogr.
(Wikipedia)

Tribologie (technologie)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Filler plays a significant role in determining the properties and behavior of particulate composites. In this experimental study, mechanical and tribological behaviors of sub-micron size cenospheres filled glass-polyester composites are investigated. Cenospheres and glass fiber-reinforced polyester composites are prepared by hand lay-up technique. Composites are fabricated by filling 10 wt.% and 20 wt.% of 800 nm and 200 nm size of cenosphere filler particulate respectively along with 40 wt.% of glass fiber. Glass polyester composite without filler is also prepared for proportional analysis. A series of dry sliding wear test are conducted on a pin-on-disc machine with three sliding velocities of 1.57, 2.62 and 3.66 m/s under three different normal loading of 20, 25 and 40 N for three sliding distances of 1000, 2500 and 4000 m respectively. A statistics-based design of experiments approach is used by using Taguchi's orthogonal arrays. Results reveal that mechanical properties and wear resistance of the composites increase with a decrease in the particle size. Artificial neural network (ANN) approach is also applied to the friction and wear data for subsequent validation. Finally, optimal factor settings are determined using genetic algorithm (GA).

ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Thermal contact resistance, a parameter that describes the thermal transferability of the interface between the melt and the metallic wall, exercises a significant influence on the surface quality of the resulting part, especially in thin wall injection molding. In this study, temperature data of the melt was quantitatively measured with only 2 micro thermocouples, and TCR of specimens with 4 kinds of thickness was calculated after data processing with a new mathematical model. It was demonstrated that TCR was deeply affected by mold temperature. When the mold temperature increased from 90 °C to 130 °C, the rate of TCR decline was 56.72 %. Melt cooling simulation was performed with different values of TCR, which played the dominant role of TCR in calculating the temperature distribution in thin-wall injection molding. It showed that TCR exercises a significant influence on the simulation of the cooling rate, and the influence cannot be ignored, especially in thin-wall injection molding.

Quebracho est l'un des noms communs, en espagnol, d'au moins trois espèces similaires d'arbres originaires du Gran Chaco, en Amérique latine : Schinopsis lorentzii (quebracho colorado santiagueño), de la famille des Anacardiaceae ; Schinopsis balansae (quebracho colorado chaqueño), de la même famille ;

Tannage Résumé : Although complex salts of CrIII sulfate are currently the most effective tanning agents, salts of other metals, including aluminum, have been used either alone or in combination with vegetable tannins or other organic chemicals. In the present study, the interactions of aluminum sulfate, and quebracho or chestnut tannins with collagen were investigated. A model system was devised to use soluble collagen in one compartment of an equilibrium dialysis cell and solutions of mineral or polyphenolic tanning agents in the other compartment. This study, by focusing on the effects of tanning agents on soluble collagen, rather than on intact hide, or powdered hide, gives a somewhat different perspective on the tanning process. The extraction of water from the collagen solution in the formation of aluminum/tannin complexes suggests that the lowering of water activity around the collagen may play a role in stabilizing a collagen/tannin/aluminum tannage. The most interesting finding is that aluminum which has little effect on collagen helical structure and stability does appear to connect collagen molecules in some manner to produce high molecular weight species that do not separate under the conditions of SDS PAGE. Comparison of the interactions of various combinations of minerals and vegetable tannins with collagen is expected to provide insight into a more generalized mechanism for tanning.
