Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy polyamide based paint was coated on glass plate and mild steel panels inoculated with pseudomonas bacterial species. The weight gain experienced in the coated panels after 90 days of immersion, indicates the polymer-coated surface. Similarly the impedance data revealed that the enzyme produced by the pseudomonas did not influence the coating surface. But after 90 days the resistance value has decreased due to diffusion of water into the polymer coated surface. The FTIR analysis confirmed the epoxy polyamide coating has strong resistance to microbial activity resulting in no biodegradation. Note de contenu : - Preparation of coated panels

The fibers with 3 different lengths viz. 10, 20 and 30mm length were used for manufacturing the composites. The composites were manufactured with 3 different proportions of fiber to resin namely 3:97, 6:94 and 9:91 corresponding to each length of fiber. The composite properties tensile, flexural, compression strength and water absorption were measured. The mechanical properties tensile, flexural and compression strength increased with the increase in fiber length. It is also observed that with an increase in the proportion of fiber the tensile, flexural and water absorption % have increased. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL :

TalcIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Talc is a soft, hydrophobic and inert mineral extender with a moderate oil absorption (15-50 g/100 g) and density (2.7-2.8 kg/dm). Talcs with various crystal structures affect the coating film strength differently. The most common talcs have platelet structures (macro-crystalline talc) that give good barrier properties and reinforce the coating film. The talc's particle shape can also be blocky (micro-crystalline talc), which gives good optical performance, but lower barrier properties. The platy talcs are preferred for anti-corrosion performance, where they presumably act in a similar manner as mica or micaceous iron oxide (MIO). The flat, platy and inert talc particles complicate the path that water must travel to get through the coating. Based on this knowledge, talc is expected to influence water absorption as well as the formation of conductive pathways positively, and is therefore expected to improve the barrier properties of various coatings. Pure talc is water repellent and inert, but all the talcs are not pure and platy. The composition of talc varies between different sources. The talc can be pure talc or it may be mixed with other minerais like chlorite (Mg-Al-Fe-silicate) and/or carbonate-based minerals. The talc mixtures are less hydrophobic and less inert compared with the pure talc.
In this study, the barrier and anti-corrosion performance of commercial talc grades with different composition and particle form were evaluated. The barrier properties were determined by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The coating resistance by EIS was compared with the results of accelerated salt spray exposure. An explanation about the coating formulations and the results of these accelerated testing will be further discussed in this article.Note de contenu : - Experimental

Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Note de contenu : - Functional (or reactive) groups
