Depending on the coating formulation, they prove to be hard, yet still flexible, even in cold weather.
Additional values to mention are the corresponding coatings are high-gloss, weather resistant, highly chemical resistant and, depending on the dispersion used, characterised by a pronounced self-healing effect after scratching or are very fast drying, meaning the oven temperature for drying coated objects can be reduced to cut energy costs and CO2 emissions. These new PU and PAC dispersions are already used in the field of general industrial, wood and furniture coating. The dispersions presented here make it possible, using waterborne products, to fulfill or even exceed the requirements imposed on coatings in market segments previously dominated by conventional coating systems and they are very eco-friendly thanks to their low VOC content. A significant expansion is expected in the use of waterborne polyurethane coatings in the medium term. These new building blocks, therefore, will add a new chapter to the overall success story of aliphatic 2K polyurethane coatings.Note de contenu : - Internal activation cuts energy costs and reduces CO2 emissions

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : To improve the weather ability and thermal stability of styrene-acrylic polymer emulsion coatings, a series of novel styrene-acrylic polymer emulsion modified with 2-[2-hydroxy-5-[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]phenyl]-2H-benzotriazole (HMEB), hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFMA), and vinyl-trimethoxysilane (VTMS) were prepared through semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization. The emulsions and their coatings were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, dynamic laser scattering, transmission electron microscopy, zeta potential, thermogravimetric analysis, and artificially accelerated aging test. According to the results, the new polymer emulsion had superior UV absorption from 308 to 364 nm. Moreover, the coating performed the best anti-aging stability when the content of HMEB, HFMA, and VTMS reached 4%, 2%, and 3%, respectively. After the 1000 h aging test, the color difference (ΔE) and rate of loss of gloss (ΔG) were only 6.86% and 51.10%, while the unmodified coatings were 16.05% and 72.22%, respectively. Furthermore, the thermal stability and water resistance of the coating were improved by fluorine and silicon monomers. The initial decomposition temperature was increased from 327 to 339°C. Moreover, the UV stabilization mechanism is preliminarily discussed. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Change in a coating surface, or bulk, during weathering is the accumulation of repeated, random, nanoscale erosion or chemical events that may be modelled using Monte Carlo techniques. Multiphase coatings, including pigments, may be simulated, as well as polymers that change their sensitivity to degradation during weathering. The results of the Monte Carlo model are compared with those of macroscopic properties, such as, gloss, fracture toughness, and wetting contact angle. Simulated properties change through the lifetime of the coating in ways that are consistent with published results. Seemingly complicated changes in properties may be described by repeated simple, random processes.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the era of sustainability, direct-to-metal coatings have proven to be a promising solution as it eliminates the need for underneath primer coating layers. In the present study, two coating systems, viz. acrylic polyurethane and acrylic-polyester hybrid polyurethane nano-composite coatings, were prepared by addition of nano-silica in various loadings for direct-to-metal coating applications. The addition of nano-silica along with selected resin systems enables to meet desired mechanical properties, chemical resistance along with weathering and corrosion resistance of DTM coating system. Incredible improvement in the overall mechanical properties of the coating including pencil hardness and scratch resistance has been observed by the addition of nano-silica. SEM technique was employed to evaluate the nano-silica dispersion into the coating system along with its morphology. SEM studies revealed thorough dispersion of the nanoparticles within the coating matrix for both the coating systems. Thermal properties were studied by thermogravimetric analysis along with structural characterization by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Thermal stability of both the coating systems increased with the addition of nano-silica; however, acrylic-polyester hybrid polyurethane coatings revealed better thermal stability at 8% nano-silica loading. Color and gloss changes were studied before and after 500 h exposure to a QUV chamber. Anticorrosive properties were evaluated by salt spray exposure for 700 h. At 8% nano-silica loading, acrylic-polyester hybrid polyurethane coatings revealed better weathering performance along with anticorrosive properties and chemical resistance owing to the presence of hybrid polymer chains. Revêtements -- Effets du climatIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The objective evaluation of the degree of protection that a coating can offer to wood exposed to natural weathering is complex, because the phenomena that cause degradation are themselves complex. In recent years, attempts have been made to establish some objective criteria for such an evaluation, which has led to the creation of European standard EN 927.
