Opacité (optique)Index. décimale : 667.4 Encres Résumé : Very high levels of titanium dioxide may be used in white flexo inks. This leads to 'crowding' and a loss of pigment efficiency. Seven different extenders were evaluated as partial replacement fo TiO2 marked differences in performance were observed and correlated with differences in appearance found by imaging procedures. Note de contenu : - Choosing the right extender

NanoparticulesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The global leather industry is looking for a cleaner leather processing technology to overcome its negative environmental impact. As an alternative to conventional processing, an eco-friendly filling composition based on fumed silica was developed and tested for the production of leather materials. Polycriterial optimization of the filling composition containing silica nanoparticles was conducted using the McLean-Anderson method by considering the type of mathematical model of the process “content-properties”. For optimization of the experimental conditions a multithreaded program based on calculation of informative and dispersive matrices and their determinants was developed. The optimal formulation of filling composition for the production of flexible leather materials was established and experimentally tested. The developed technology yields leather materials with increased volumetric yield and elasticity and more homogeneous microstructure when compared to the current company technology. The mathematical modelling discussed in the paper can be also used to solve similar problems for other technological processes. Note de contenu : - Mathematical model : Definition

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a key element for creating whiteness and opacity in paints and coatings. Since 2008, TiO2 costs have riser more than 70 %, and current prices now exceed $1.70 per pound. As a result, paint manufacturers are reviewign their technology options to identify opportunities to reduce TiO2 consumption. This is particularly true in the architectural coatings segment where TiO2 is the largest component of raw materials costs.
How can paint manufacturers leverage this broad technology base to help them reduce the cost of whiteness and opacity ? Before we can answer this, it is important to first understand how TiO2 works.Note de contenu : - Basics of opacity : Refraction of light - Diffraction of light

Technique de la productionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : With a view to making car painting more economical, BASF Coatings set out to study ways of optimising the standard process. In a series of development stages, it devised a paint system that integrates the task of the primer into other coating components. Paints manufacturers DuPont Performance Coatings, PPG Industries and Hemmelrath offer similar solutions. Note de contenu : - "Integrated process I" is suitable only for new installations
- Water-borne basecoats can be applied without intermediate drying
