By measuring the relative integration of specific peaks in the carbon spectra as a function of the time of irradiation and laser power, the relative reactivity of monomers/ oligomers used in the early stages of polymerization is determined. Changes in crosslink density and in the mobility of the polymeric chains can be followed throughout the photopolymerization process by monitoring proton T1ρ relaxation times. The degree of crosslinking is correlated to the relaxation times and it increases with an increasing power of the irradiating laser even under conditions where the degree of conversion, as measured by quantitative infrared absorption of the 810 cm-1 band of the acrylate is almost unchanged. Corrosion resistance and flexibility/adhesion improve with the use of short oxide blocks and at the higher end of the oxide loading ranges studied, with propylene oxide being the preferred alkylene oxide. A two-stage procedure for copolymerization provides further enhancement of corrosion resistance. The structure-performance relationships found in this work are expected to apply to the use of similar resins in lower VOC waterborne, higher solids, and/or higher flow powder formulations. Nowadays, four type of cross-linkers for leather finishing are available : polyaziridines, polyizocyanates, polycarbodiimides and epoxy compounds. The aim of this study is to compare the mechanism of reaction of these four types of cross-linkers and the possibility of using a polysilane as a cross-linking agent for butadienes. A comparison of results shows that all cross-linkers studied improve wet rub fastness. However, polyaziridine and polysilane emerge as the most effective cross-linkers for butadiene binders.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this article, a series of hybrid coatings were prepared and characterized. At first, polydimethylsiloxane modified with siliane coupling agent was copolymerized with acrylate monomers by free radical polymerization to get the hybrid resins. Due to the combination of covalent bond, the prepared hybrid resins were uniform and transparent. Then a series of hybrid resins were cured with tetraethoxysilane and dibutyltin dilaurate as the crosslinker and catalyst, respectively. The blends were loaded onto the substrate, such as tin plate, steel panels, or flat glass, and cured by heating to form hybrid coatings. To study the factors on the properties of the prepared hybrid resins and cured coatings, various measurements were carried out, such as FTIR, TGA, DSC, laser optical microscope, water contact angles, pencil scratch hardness, and the electrochemistry test. Thanks to the combination of covalent bond, the two components dispersed uniformly in the prepared hybrid resins and no cracks were observed from the cured hybrid coatings with an optical microscope. With excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and hydrophobic property, the prepared hybrid coatings can find application in the heavy-duty chemical industry.
