These latexes are synthesized by an emulsion polymerization technique. One of the prime factors to be considered in the choice of a commercial latex or a latex blend to be grafted is the glass transition temperature(s) of the polymer(s) in the final latex desired. The graft latexes were characterized in terms of glass transition temperature, solids content, bromine content, grafted dibromostyrene content, and flame retardancy. They are useful for a wide range of applications, including fabric backcoatings, carpetings, paints, adhesives, sealants, caulks, nonwoven binders, etc. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Characterization

Note de contenu : - LA CATALYSE HOMOGENE, UNE ALLIEE

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coating binders were synthesized from palm oil-based oleic acid and acrylate monomers. At the first stage, a macromer was prepared from condensation reactions of palm oil-based oleic acid, glycerol, and phthalic anhydride. At the next stage, the macromer was copolymerized with selected acrylic monomers, methyl methacrylate, and butyl acrylate. Changing the ratio of the palm oleic acid macromer with both the acrylate monomers in the synthesis gave a higher conversion rate and solid content. From 13C-NMR, the structure of the macromer retained the cis position of –C=C– as in the original oleic acid under the relatively high-temperature polycondensation reaction. The results showed that the thermal stability of the macromer improved after modification with the acrylate monomers. The coatings prepared with the highest ratio of the acrylate monomers exhibited better overall coating properties. The modified macromer coated on mild steel panels showed excellent adhesion, pencil hardness, and water and salt resistances. The Tafel polarization curves showed that the corrosion rate in NaCl solution decreased significantly when the acrylate monomer content was increased. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Polyamide 6.6 fibres were modified for the improvement of dyeing affinity using a graft copolymerisation method. These fibres were grafted with acrylic acid as monomer. The influence of the chemical modification of polyamide 6.6 fibres on the dyeing properties was investigated using a cationic dye (Red Astrazon 5BL). It was shown that the dye uptake of the modified fibres was greater than that of the unmodified fibres. The kinetic study of the cationic dye used at various grafting percentages showed an improvement of the dye build-up rate, such as its exhaustion. In addition, an increase in the adsorption of the dye quantity fixed on the surface layer of the fibre made up of the grafted molecules was announced. Colour fastness to washing was improved with the grafting percentage. The modelling of the adsorption isotherms using Langmuir, Freundlich and Jossen relations allows the determination of isotherm constants. The results obtained from this modelling study show the existence of several models corresponding to various percentages of grafting.
