Système de libération contrôlée (technologie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : ChlorHexidine Digluconate [CHD] was encapsulated inside an ethylcellulose shell material [Aquacoat ECD], and then spray dried to produce mixed microparticles (MPs). The validity and functional quality of the resultant [CHD-MPs] were analyzed on vamp and lining leather which are used to manufacture shoes for diabetics. The morphology, efficiency of encapsulation and in vitro release characteristics of the [CHD-MPs] were optimized in order to impregnate [CHD-MPs] onto leather footwear for diabetics. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the [CHD-MPs] and the leathers treated with it. SEM images illustrated that the [CHD-MPs] were spherical, smooth in shape and adhered well to leather. In vitro CHD-release studies from its MPs, and for leather treated with it were performed in phosphate buffer saline at pH =7.2. There was an inherently controlled release behaviour of CHD for all the formulations on leather. Finally, microbiologic studies on leather treated with [CHD-MPs] were done. This study suggested that footwear containing [CHD- MPs] is/will improve the quality of daily life for diabetics. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials

TannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study examines the behavior of three different types of humic acids (natural humic acids, regenerated humic acids, and sulphited humic acids) with regard to their penetration and fixation to the leather. More specifically, through the test carried out the curves of penetration and fixation were drawn, and from these the optimum pH intervals of penetration and fixation to the leather were determined. The data obtained is essential in view of the subsequent application of humic acids as tanning agents and/or retanning agents. Thiocyano-méthylthiobenzotiazoleIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The new ISO 13365:2011 develops a test method for the determination of the content of the preservative agents 2-(thiocyanomethylthio)-benzothiazole (TCMTB), 4-chloro-3-methylphenol (PCMC), 2-phenylphenol (OPP) and 2-Octyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone (OIT) in leather by liquid chromatography. The simultaneous determination of the fungicides TCMTB, PCMC, OPP, OIT, and also 2-mercaptobenzothiazol (MBT) and 3-iodo-2-propynyl-butylcarbamate (IPBC) in leather samples was carried out by liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array ultraviolet detection. The sample preparation and extraction step was performed following the new ISO 13365 Standard. The mobile phase was 0.1% formic acid in water (A) : 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile (B). Gradient: 60% B, 6 min isocratic, then linear to 95% B in 9 min. The chromatographic detection introduced only a minor change with respect to the Standard: a photo diode array detector was used instead of a single wavelength ultraviolet one, thereby improving the reliability of the identifications and the sensitivity of the quantification. It has been ensured that 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) and pentachlorophenol (PCP) not interfere in the determination. The leather fortifications of 30 and 300 mg/kg yielded average TCMTB recoveries of 94% and 99%, respectively. The recoveries of the other fungicides were similar. The targeted fungicides were determined in 40 samples of commercial leather. Residues of TCMTB were found in 90% of samples. In summary, the new ISO 13365:2011 Standard provides a quick and reliable method not only for the determination of the four molecules that are within the scope of the Standard but also for other fungicides such as IPBC and MBT. Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This is the first report of an irregular series providing information on the performance capability of test methods used for many years in the leather industry. The reason and purpose of the series is to provide the reader with an impression of the range and variability of the measured values which result from the use of the test methods on leather.
Anyone concerned with the testing of leather over a period of time will be aware of the problem of agreement of results between two testers. Despite sampling according to DIN, the results agree only to a limited extent. Reasons for this come readily to mind, there is the variability of the leather itself or, the actual location of the specimen may not be known.
As a rule these differences are not understood by the customer. In customer specifications the requirements are often stated in the form of “greater than”, “less than” or as a range “from...to”. These do not provide a problem provided that the achieved values are markedly in excess or below the stipulated values and within the confidence limits of the test method. Problems can arise however when the average value for the delivery conforms to the requirement but is close to the defined limit. It is then possible for individual results to be outside the required values. A recheck by the customer may indicate a failure whereas the producer had achieved compliance in his tests. In order to avoid the possibility of rejection or claims for compensation, it is of considerable importance to know the likely deviations of the test method used. The determination of water vapour permeability according to DIN 53333 is one of those test methods where considerable differences in the determined values can occur. Not only are these variations due to the leather but also to the method itself and the interpretation of the method details.
In order to determine the variability of the test method, a round robin test is ideal as unrelated practitioners test a common material by the same method. The resultant standard deviations of the average values provide a good means of characterising the test method. Disadvantages of this approach are the large amount of material required, as sampling is from the official sampling position and the rapidly increasing number of samples required with an increase in the number of participants.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Water vapour permeability values for the FOC crust leather

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The main aim of this study is to develop nover rnultifunctional nanotechnology systems that are applied in textile and leather industry processes for the upholstery used on seating for public spaces and vehicles. More specifically, the study seeks to achieve a dirt-free effect using nanostructured coatings that can bath repel dirt and produce a material with self-cleaning properties. To obtain this property, we use polymers for leather finishing polymers and self-assembling technical textile in several nanophases and microphases with a superhydrophobic effect similar to that of the lotus leaf, but with a greater resistance to abrasion. Additionally, in this study we also use hybrid multifunctional polyurethanes, organic-inorganic amphipihilic polymers with hydrophobic, oleophobic, and hydrophilic nanophases and microphases which can spontaneously rearrange on substrates, creating structures that repel both water and dirt.
The study consists of three stages : in i) selecting the most appropriate substances to achieve the self-cleaning effect ; ii) synthesizing nanostructured polymers with elastic properties, hybrid polymers with a fluoropolyurethane base, and the organic part based on self-cross-linking silanes ; iii) assessing the polymers obtained.
To understand the mechanisms of synthesis and action of the nanocomposites, the following characterization techniques have been applied : determination of particle size by means of dynamic light scattering ; determination of contact angle ; and determination of surface roughness.
A total of 25 products were developed. The results indicate that it is possible to produce coatings that give good hydrophobic properties and a self-cleaning effect to leather and textile surfaces. However, when these products are applied as coatings, the appearance and rigidity of the finished leather needs to be further improved.Note de contenu : - Synthesis of nanocomposites to obtain a superhydrophobic surface
