ViscoélasticitéIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The tubing extrusion-forming process of a fluoropolymer (FEP) melt was studied both experimentally and numerically. The flow behaviour of a FEP resin was determined by using a tubular die used in industrial-scale operations and these data were compared with simulation results using (i) a viscous model (Cross) and (ii) a viscoelastic one (the Kaye – Bernstein, Kearsley, Zapas / Papanastasiou, Scriven, Macosko or K-BKZ/PSM model) in order to assess the viscoelastic effects. In all simulations, compressibility, thermal and pressure effects on viscosity were taken into account. It was found that the viscoelastic results for the pressure, and hence the stresses at the wall, were always higher than the viscous results. Both were higher than the experimental results. A quadratic slip model plus viscoelasticity was found necessary to reproduce the experiments. The smooth flow curves resulting from this industrial tubular-coating die are a further manifestation that this is an appropriate design for coating fluoropolymers at very high apparent shear rates, exceeding 5 000 s–1. Titre : Two coats in one : Fluoropolymer blending optimises costs, performance and metallic effects Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hongli Wang, Auteur ; Shun Saitoh, Auteur Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 22-27 Note générale : Bibliogr.

RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The problem of adhesion of polyurethane foams to fluoropolymer permanent release mold coatings was studied. Two coatings, based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and perfluoroalkoxy polymer (PFA) aqueous dispersions, respectively, were applied on aluminum plates, and the foam release performance evaluated. The PTFE coating displayed gradual loss of antiadhesion properties with consecutive exposure to the reactive mixture, which was associated with isocyanate surface penetration. Penetrant mass uptake experiments, performed on free films, indicated that PTFE retains about 10 times more isocyanate than PFA, probably because of its porous surface morphology. A synergistic effect was found by applying a very small quantity of a waterborne release agent on the PTFE coating, before every foam molding cycle. The release agent formed a protective barrier that minimized contact of the coating with the reactive mixture, allowing for stable and robust foam release performance. The problem of polyurea build-up, associated with the use of aqueous release agents, was not observed because of the small amounts of compound used. The structures of FCPUAs were analyzed with 1H NMR and FTIR. Different contents of FCPUAs were blended into non-fluorinated polycarbonate polyurethane as fluorinated additives. The water and oil contact angles of the films were investigated by contact angle measurement, and the results indicated that an extremely low concentration of FCPUAs could produce a highly hydrophobic and oleophobic coating. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis showed that the coating surface was rich in fluorinated species. Besides, the films containing FCPUAs also had great tensile strength, hardness and adhesion.
