MicrostructuresIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Thermoplastic micro parts are commonly manufactured by the large-scale production technology of micro injection molding, with small wall thicknesses limiting the feasible flow length. In contrast, microthermoforming is an inexpensive technology to manufacture thin-walled microstructured parts, but connecting three-dimensional solid bodies, e.g. functional structures, is impossible. The novel combination of processing techniques, i.e. microthermoforming integrated in the injection molding process with dynamic mold temperature control enables the use of non-adhesive polymer melt to form thermoplastic films via back molding and employ adhesive melt to connect further structures. Additional heating the film with the back molding component represents a particular benefit in terms of reaching the required film temperature and leads to low temperatures prevailing in the mold. Simulative tools facilitate the understanding of film temperatures after back molding and can be used in a further step for the adaption of homogenous temperature distributions across a really distributed microstructures. Generally speaking, the technology is expected to allow for multifunctional, thin-walled microstructured parts produced in short cycle times. Note de contenu : - MICROTHERMOFORMING - STATE OF THE ART

Surfaces (Physique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Superhydrophobic surfaces - A new process for producing water-repellent surfaces during injection molding makes targeted use of the stretching of microstructures in the demolding process. The microstructures themselves are shaped in a variothermal injection molding process. Measurements show that the surfaces have a contact angle of up to 170° towards water.

Structures multicouchesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this work the microstructure of multilayer blown films consisting of a core layer placed between two external ones is studied. The core layer is a blend with 70 ° (w/w) of a homopolypropylene PP and 30 ° of a metallocene-catalyzed ethylene-octene copolymer mEOC (LLDPE or VLDPE), whereas the external symmetrical layers are composed of LLDPE or they have the same composition as the core layer. The PP and PE crystalline phases formed during the film blowing were investigated by thermal analysis, mechanical properties, TEM morphology and X-ray diffraction pole figures. These films successfully combine the high mechanical strength of PP with the quasi-isotropic behavior of blown PE. Multilayer film containing PP/mEOC blends, particularly blends of PP70/LLDPE30, show better balanced tensile properties when compared at crossed directions. The presence of VLDPE in the blends shifts downwards the melting and crystallization temperatures and crystallinity of PP. X-Ray pole figures suggest the occurrence of epitaxial crystallization of the PE phase upon the PP crystals in these PP/mEOC blend films.
