Revêtements en bâtiment:Peinture en bâtimentIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Global concerns of environmental pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission has led growing legislative stringency to be more tightened in present scenario. Increased consumer/user awareness towards green and sustainable chemistry is a demanding factor for major coatings and raw material suppliers to direct their efforts, either in the area of reformulating their existing product formulations or adopt new approaches to meet the requirements. Architectural coatings occupy around 55% portion of the total global coating consumption. Ultra low and Zero VOC coatings with low odor are the need of the hour for sustaining the business as well as future of the coating industry. This review article highlights the progress in the area of designing green architectural coatings with special focus on water based paints including the processing and chemistry of emulsion polymers viz. acrylics, VeoVa, EVA and waterborne alkyd technology for glossy finishes. Some critical paint ingredients which are major contributors of VOC like coalescing aids, rheology modifiers, surfactants and other additives are also being addressed with reference to legislative aspects. Further alternatives over depleting petro-products such as biochemicals (bio- monomers) and renewable sources of raw materials to ensure sustainability are discussed. Cuir d'ameublementIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In the scope of upholstery leather emission evaluation various test specifications on the basis of test chamber examinations are implemented requiring an ambient air concentration hygienic assessment after 3 and 28 days conditioning periods. The quantified VOC test chamber concentrations are compared with defined target values. With increasing frequency, tanneries and the leather processing industry force test institutes into the approach to generate valid ratings of potential contaminant loads by applying short-terra evaluations.
Both the arrangement of an expressive pool of measured data on upholstery leathers and proficiency of measuring time-point related VOC frequency scales and their reciprocal dependences (interdependency) should enable an estimation approach : On the basis of quantified TVOC (Total VOC) and single compound concentrations measured at time-point t1 = 3d a prediction on a derivable probability can be drawn to which extent leather samples may comply with the threshold limits defined for the prolonged evaluation reading point t2 = 28d. From the aspect of a statistical data arrangement, this article summarizes upholstery leather samples VOC test results including discussion of approaches for usage of VOC results extracted from short-term evaluations.Note de contenu : - EVALUATION SCHEMES AND GUIDE VALUE THRESHOLD LIMITS : Test collection and sample size - Concentrations of volatile (VOC) and semi-volatile organic compounds - Discussion of quantification time-point related TVOC frequency scales - Evaluation of time-point related dependences of TVOC/TSVOC frequency cumulations

PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This paper presents the impact of accelerated aging on selected mechanical and thermal properties and VOC emission of polypropylene composites filled with glass fiber with different fiber contents. Due to their positive properties (good thermal and mechanical properties, low weight), glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics are becoming increasingly important. Fiber reinforced thermoplastics are mainly produced by injection molding and extrusion, whereby the extrusion compounding process is primarily used to prepare fiber-filled granulates while the injection molding process is used to manufacture products. In this study, short glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics (polypropylene) are produced on a twin screw extruder. Then, tensile test specimens are produced by injection molding. The glass fiber content is between 20 and 40 wt%. In order to investigate the long-term stability, the test specimens are artificially aged in accordance with ASTM 1980. The thermal, mechanical, and emission properties were evaluated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), tensile tests, and TDS-GC-MS analysis prior to and after accelerated aging. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of thermal aging on crystallinity and mechanical properties and on VOC emission of glass fiber reinforced isotactic polypropylene.
Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : The use of silicones in automotive applications opens great opportunities. However, there are also certain risks, especially in e-mobility applications, so that in the supplier industry there is sometimes the myth of a silicone ban present. As part of a bilateral project, Audi and Fraunhofer IFAM have now investigated the outgassing behaviour of silicone-containing materials in the environment of mechatronic and electronic components in more detail.
