Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Sustainable, biodegradable and thermoplastic processable aliphatic polyesters (polybutylene succinate (PBS) and polyethylene succinate (PES)) were prepared and characterized; then, they were grafted onto cellulose micro-fibers using a simple click reaction. This modification was conducted under simple experimental conditions. The characterization (NMR and FTIR analysis), thermal properties, solubility, morphology and biodegradation process of the all products prepared were established and studied. The results show that the solubility of the prepared derivatives is improved in comparison with cellulose, while their thermal stability showed a slight decrease compared to the starting materials. The composites derived from the modified cellulose show a slight decrease in their biodegradability in comparison with that of unmodified cellulose due to several parameters. SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : The current process of CSAP manufacture is an environmentally hazardous process, which leads to toxic heavy metal accumulation in industrial effluent and increased VOC emissions. The research conducted modified this process by replacing both the HSF technology with HSD technology and substitution with a more compatible organoclay. The modified organoclay exhibited the intercalation of cationic surfactant between the clay layers and thus, changed the surface properties from highly hydrophilic to increasingly hydrophobic. In addition, modification of the swelling clay with cationic surfactant results in an increase in the basal or interlayer spacing of the layer and exposure of new sorption sites of clay. This modification allows a lower viscosity and better dispersion with the moderately polar solvent system used in the formulation. The viscosity vs time results additionally illustrated that although the HSD system produced FOG particles larger than those of the HSF system and used less solvant over time, the HSF system produced CSAP that was more viscous and the smaller FOG particle size caused electrostatic tension in the paint suspension ie syneresis. The larger FOG particle size from the HSD system essentially contributed to paint stability. The improved CSAP manufacturing process achieved a substantial lower volume of solvent, which can also be recycled. Further research includes the application of solid-state NMR to further analyse the complexity of these organoclays in determining solubility limitations.

For direct comparison purposes, an SiO2 coating was also prepared by the Stöber method using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as the reactant. Interestingly, the coating obtained from the polysilsesquioxane sol exhibited a much higher moisture resistance capability than its counterpart, which was attributed to its more compact feature between nanoparticles as characterized by N2 absorption experiment and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Furthermore, its high transparency of about 92% showed potential for application in the protection of optical crystals. Réflexion totale atténuéeIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : UV-curable urethane acrylate adhesives will cure in less than 1 second when exposed to UV light with intensity greater than 1 W/cm^2. This curing process may be monitored by measuring the conversion of acrylate double bonds via spectroscopic analysis. Transmission FTIR will measure the conversion throughout the entire sample while an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) method will allow for measurement at a particular point or surface. Acrylate adhesives also exhibit a surface tack in the presence of oxygen in the air. One way to prevent inhibition is to cure the adhesive within a closed system (no exposed surface air) or blanket the reaction with nitrogen. A high-intensity light causing a rapid cure will also minimize the amount of surface tack. Total VOC levels were found to be below 1% for polyesters and below 3.5% for acrylics. The main volatiles are identified as blocking agents of some hardeners, antioxidants and degasing additives. In acrylics some monomer and solvent emissions were detected. Note de contenu : - Composition of the powder paints
