VanillineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The demands of the marine industry for functional coatings are diversified : From corrosion protection of the ship's hull, through to anti fouling characteristics and reduced friction with the aim to save fuel and improve a vessels performance. Furthermore, new environ mental regulations regarding antifouling coating systems require the elimination of toxins release, which led to the development and adoption of new more environmentally friendly technologies. Consequently, the present research proposes a multifunctional coating system, exploiting nanotechnology and biotechnology, in order to meet the antifouling and anticorrosion requirements of the marine industry. Three innovative, environmentally friendly coating systems were developed exploiting the properties of functionalised nanoclays, treated nanosilicas and novel ecologically compatible anti-microbial reduced adhesion agent based on natural su bstances. These coatings are based on unique cross proprietary patented technologies and can be integrated to give a multifunctional and multilayer protection system. Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Wetting agents are added to waterborne coatings in order to increase the wetting of the substrate and to improve the compatibility with pigments and other components. Selection of the suitable wetting agent for desired formulation and application properties is critical. For example, anionic wetting agents can have excellent dynamic surface tension control but can often result in an increase in the foaminess of the grind that may appear as microfoam in the applied coating. Low foaming nonionic wetting agents have found value in industrial coatings, where microfoam cannot be tolerated however, they do not provide adequate surface tension control.
To overcome these limitations, a new low foaming, silicon and APEO free multifunctional wetting agent has been developed (SUPREAD® 2059). It provides antifoaming properties, as well as offering fast dynamic surface tension reduction for improved flow and levelling on difficult to wet surfaces like wood, plastics etc. The newly developed multifunctional wetting agent was tested in various coating formulations. The results of the study reveals its outstanding ability in surface wetting, antifoaming, pore filling on wood, block resistance and has shown no negative impact on gloss or rheology.Note de contenu : - BASICS OF WETTING

Tannage Résumé : Nano-Ti02/organic fluorine polyacrylate emulsion was prepared by using dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (G04), modified nano-TiO2 , methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl acrylate (EA) as the main raw materials and potassium persulfate as the initiator. The structure of the emulsion was characterized by FTIR, TEM and UV, and the influence of nano-TiO2 and organic fluorine monomers on the application performance of leather was investigated.
The results showed that the organic fluorine monomers and nano-TiO2 participated in the copolymerization with acrylate, the prepared emulsion had a core-shell structure, and KH570 improved the dispersion of nano-TiO2 Compared with pure polyacrylate emulsion, the UV transmittance of the composite emulsion was obviously decreased. The contact angle of leather to water was about 131.16° after finishing with fluorine-containing polyacrylate emulsion, which showed good hydrophobicity. After adding the polyacrylate emulsion containing nano-TiO2 to finish the leather, the inhibition zone diameter of Escherichia coli was 5.1mm, showing good antibacterial properties. With the introduction of nano-TiO2 and organic fluorine, the applied properties of the finished leather were also effectively improved.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Prepartion of modified nano-TiO2 - Preparation of nano-TiO2/organic fluorine polyacrylate emulsion - Finishing technology of leather - FTIR characterisation of latex films - TEM analysis of emulsion - TEM analysis of emulsion - Contact angle of finished leather to water - Test of antibacterial activity of finished leather - Testing of the finished leather applied properties

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nowadays smart polymers, smart materials, smart coatings are getting a lot of attention in the research field. Amongst them smart coatings are the fastest developing and the most interesting technology. Smart coatings are called as "SMART'? because they respond to environmental changes in a predictable and noticeable manner. The technology discussed in this paper is "Superhydrophobic coating". This effect, was originally observed in the nature (e.g. on lotus leaves), and is important fora wide range of scientific and technological applications, like developing coatings that possess self-cleaning properties, prevention of surface fouling and anti-corrosion. Superhydrophobic surfaces are those whose water contact angle is greaterthan 150° and have low surface energy. Water droplets do not slide, but roll down the superhydrophobic surface, carrying dust along with it and thereby cleaning the surface. The corrosion protection mechanism is related, first, to the reduction of the electrolyte—metal contact area, and second, to the reduction of the corrosion current. Such coatings are also used to reduce leakage currents on the surface of silicon insulators .This paperfocuses on superhydrophobic coatings based on silicone resins, fluoro-organiccompounds and nanomaterials.
