The Na-MMT surface was modified with two types of cations; a) diamine cation (D-Clay), and b) a combination of diamine and quaternary alkylammonium cations (A-Clay) via cation exchange reaction. The „nanocomposites samples compatibilized with PP-g-MA were prepared by melt compounding in an internal mixer. The XRD patterns indicated the intercalated/exfoliated microstructure for both nanocomposite samples. The SEM results showed a significant decreases in the PA6 droplet size, from 3.2?m of the simple blend to the 0.4?m in the D-Clay containing sample. Moreover, in the sample containing A-Clay the average droplet size was found to be 1?m. The D-Clay containing sample showed the rheological properties similar to a simple blend in high frequencies with a nonterminal be„havior in low frequencies storage modulus. This was explained by locating of D-Clay layers in the interphase and hence, significantly reducing the effective interfacial tension, ?/R. In contrast, the sample containing A-Clay showed an increased complex viscosity and storage modulus within a range of frequencies, which was attributed to presence of a large amount of A-Clay layers in the PP matrix. These types of nanoclay partitioning were explained by the possibility of chemical reaction between amine group of nanoclay surface modifier and maleic group of PP-g-MA compatibilizer or in-situ formed block copolymer. Consequently, the D-Clay layers bounded with PP-g-MA is preferentially located in the interphase, while, the non reactive nanoclay layers (containing alkylammonium cations) is dispersed in the PP matrix by assistance of PP-g-MA. These findings were also evidenced by TEM micrograph of both nanocomposite samples. Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this study, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) was introduced in polyphenylene ether (PPE) blend to improve the processability of PPE and to secure the flame retardancy of the blend without deteriorating physical properties. Through the study of the binary blend of PPE/PPS, it was found that the shear thinning behavior and the external lubrication effect of PPS can improve the processability of PPE. Thermal analysis of the blend showed that the glass transition temperature of the PPS component decreases by the plasticization while that of the PPE component increases by the anti-plasticization effect. The modulus of the binary blend increased with the PPS content, and the tensile strength decreased but followed the additive rule. The change in tensile properties can be explained by the synergy effect of partial miscibility between PPE and PPS due to structural similarity, and non-isotropic morphology formation. Impact strength increased sharply in PPE60 due to the mechanical grafting effect by co-continuous phase formation. In the ternary blend with SEBS-MAH applied to PPE60, the impact strength steep increased at a content of 10 wt% or more due to the dramatic morphology change based on the compatibilization effect. Flame retardancy of V0 was also observed in all compositions where SEBS-MAH was applied within 20 phr. BismaléimideRésine thermodurcissable faisant partie de la famille des polyimides d'addition et donc des polymères thermostables (bonne résistance à la chaleur). Leurs particularités principales sont :
• caractéristiques mécaniques élevées en traction, flexion et choc ;
• excellente conservation des propriétés mécaniques en température (200 à 250°C) pendant des milliers d'heures ;
• bonne inertie chimique aux huiles, solvants, kérosène, fréon ;
• très bonne tenue à la flamme ;
• caractéristiques diélectriques élevées conservées à haute température ;
• très bonne tenue aux radiations ;
• absence de porosités.
Leurs limites d'utilisation sont :
• mauvaise tenue aux acides minéraux concentrés ;
• mauvaise tenue aux solutions basiques ;

• limiter le fluage ;
• limiter le taux de matières volatiles ;
Résistance thermiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Epoxy-modified bismaleimide (BMI) foams were prepared through prepolymerization and foaming. Density-adjustable BMI foams with closed-cell structures were produced. The influence of prepolymerization time on bubble growth and morphology, as well as the compressive and heat resistant properties of the foams, were thoroughly investigated. BMI prepolymerization was an effective method for controlling the bubble growth rate, the bubble size and its distribution, and the foam density. As the prepolymerization time increased, the matrix viscosity, the number of cells per unit volume and the foam density increased, whereas, the bubble growth rate and cell size decreased, and the cell size distribution became narrower. The compressive strength and modulus increased with increasing prepolymerization time. The dimensional stability temperatures of the BMI foams were all above 200°C, as determined by their base materials, and were unaffected by prepolymerization time. ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Elastomeric foams based on 60/40 EVA/NR blend nanocomposite were prepared by melt mixing EVA, NR and clay (5 phr) in an internal mixer, and later foamed with azodicarbonamide through compression molding. Epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) with epoxide content of 25 mole% was used as a compatibilizer to improve interfacial adhesion between EVA and NR. The addition effect of ENR concentration on the blending and properties of EVA/NR blend nanocomposite foams was studied. XRD and TEM results showed that the clay in the EVA/NR blends was intercalated and locally existed in the NR phase as well as at the interface between EVA and NR. The EVA/NR blend nanocomposites showed dispersed NR domains in continuous EVA phase. The addition of ENR into EVA/NR blend nanocomposites reduced the size of the dispersed NR phase, indicating that the blend miscibility was improved. Mechanistic model was proposed for the miscibility improvement of a two-phase structure of EVA/NR blend nanocomposite in the presence of ENR and clay dispersion. However, the improved blend morphology did not significantly affect the cell structure of EVA/NR blend nanocomposites. The observation of cell structure of EVA/NR blend nanocomposites suggested that the increased addition of ENR caused a little increase in cell density, and had no influence on cell size. Furthermore, with increasing addition level of ENR in the blend nanocomposite foams, the foam density slowly decreased, whereas the specific tensile strength slightly increased. The elastomeric recovery of blend nanocomposite foams decreased with increasing ENR content. The thermal conductivity of EVA/NR blend nanocomposite foams also decreased with more addition of ENR, which had beneficial result in improving thermal insulation property.
