This oil and gas drilling and production platform set a world water depth drilling record of 2,860 feet, surpassing the previous Gulf record by more than 1,000 feet. It is located 255 miles southeast of Houston and cost approximately $1.2 billion to complete. These coatings can be temporary or permanent depending on the type of application & perform unique & challenging functions. The most commonly used release coatings are based on silicones due to their unique chemistry.
- Silicone release coatings can be solvent or water based or solvent-less catalyses normally with Tin/Platinum depending on application & performance requirements. They can be heat cured or UV cured.
- From the viewpoint of application substrates, each system has its preferences and advantages.
Solvent-based silicones are versatile - they can be used on just about anything. Solventless silicones are used on calendered Kfraft, glassine, polycoats, clay-coated papers, and films. emulsion's growth center on machine-grade papers and glassine, while UV is primarily used on films.
- The chemistry allows formulation of systems which can be tailor-made for different applications areas ranging from release labels to diaper closures, health, beauty & medical & manuy other applications such as non-stick cookware, etc.Note de contenu : - RELEASE COATING MARKETS

Surfaces -- AnalyseIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : The release mechanism of an organic pressure sensitive adhesive and substrate construction from a solventless, silicone-coated liner was found to be controlled by adhesive failure. Adhesive failure is a summation of contributions from the work of adhesion and the rheological properties of the laminate construction. The release profile was dictated by the adhesive component and its relative ability to dissipate and store energy as defined by the dynamic loss tangent function derived from linear viscoelastic measurements. On the other hand, the magnitude of release force can be further amplified by the introduction of high-release additives based on siloxane resins, which function primarily to enhance the energy-dissipative capability of the entire release system. Measured changes in the work of adhesion with the incorporation of HRA were on the order of 10^-3 to 10^-2 N.m-1 and, together with surface topography, could not account for the modification of release forces, which were in the range of 10^0 to 10^1 N.m^-1. Silicone resin emulsion paints combine the good properties of mineral and synthetic resin-bound facade-coating systems in an ideal way.
The strength of the silicone resin within the paint microstructure stems from its three-dimensionally cross-linked, modified-quartz structure, the silicone resin network. High-resolution SEM (scanning electron microscopy) demonstrates how silicone resins form nanoscale network structures that can envelop fillers and perfectly line pores without sealing them. The silicone resin network strengthens the pores and renders them water-repellent. The high affinity of the silicone resin for polar, mineral fillers, even for calcium carbonate substrates, results from its unique molecular structure of inorganic/organic hybrid nature.Note de contenu : - PRINCIPLE AND THEORY BEHIND SREP TECHNOLOGY : Model of how the silicone resin networks function - From theory to reality : The microstructure of a silicone resin emulsion paint - Sample production, preparation and analytical methods - The SREP microstructure : Results at a glance
