Complex combination tannage with phosphonium compounds, vegetable tannins and aluminium tanning agent / Luo Jianxun in JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF LEATHER TECHNOLOGISTS & CHEMISTS (JSLTC), Vol. 95, N° 5 (09-10/2011)
[article]

Follicule pileuxIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The quantitative estimation of hair follicle patterns for a leather surface was investigated by point pattern analysis for use a possible method for correct identification of leather materials. The L-function was used as a point pattern analysis. In the case of goatskins, the L-function correctly indicated the distribution patterns of guard hair follicles. Moreover, it was found that the density of hair follicles and the microscope magnification affect could be estimated quantitatively by point pattern analysis with optimum conditions. This result suggested that leather materials could be identified objectively by this method. Mordants (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Synthetic dyes are not eco-friendly and are very hazardous to the environment, but these herbal dyes are ecofriendly and free of many types of sensitivity, allergies and environmental hazards. The present study was carried out the first time to dye the goat skin with aqueous extracts of Mangifera indica, Syzygium cumini & Eucalyptus camaldulensis. Four different types of mordants CuSO4, FeSO4, KMnO4 and Potash Alum were used to fix the dye to leather, to facilitate the take-up quality of the leather and to improve color and light-fastness. These mordant gives different shades to the leather. Fastness properties of dye were studied by different techniques i.e. washing, heating, sunlight and rubbing. Result wasevaluated by using grey scale. Results of fastness properties in all case were very excellent. Mangifera indica, Syzygium cumini & Eucalyptus camaldulensis gave different colors with four different mordants. Different colors and shades obtained from natural dyes were so light and soft. Tannage Résumé : Tanning stabilizes the skin matrix permanently and is considered as the heart of leather processing. In commercial practice, vegetable and chrome tanning methods are widely employed. Between these two methods, chrome tanning is the most commonly used tanning method. Hence, it is logical to study the relationship between the chromium content and drape related properties of garment leathers. In this study, the bending length and drape parameters were measured for goat suede leathers with different chromium contents and analyzed. The goat suede leathers were prepared in three different ways namely full chrome (FC), semi chrome (SC) and full vegetable (FV) methods. Whereas FC and FV goat suede leathers had increasing drape coefficient values, the drape coefficient for SC goat suede leathers was the lowest in the range of 35.1±7.2 %. Further, softness, bending length and number of nodes for SC goat suede leathers were statistically superior in the stand point of drape ability compared to FC and FV goat suede leathers. Hence, it is validated that the semi chrome goat suede leathers possess better drape ability compared to full chrome as well as full vegetable goat suede leathers. Consequently, the presence of chromium in the leathers plays a major role in the draping ability of goat suede apparel leathers ; however, it is also infered that more amount of chromium in the leathers (FC) did not yield better drape ability.

Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Research on the effect of UV radiation on the properties and structural of collagen is an area of potential interest. In the present work, air-dried goatskin matrices were submitted to UV irradiation for different time intervals. Influence of UV irradiation on the morphology and various properties of goatskin collagen matrices have been investigated systematically. it was found that the tensile strength of the goatskin matrices increased slightly in the initial stages of UV irradiation (0-4h), while decreasing dramatically after irradiation for long time (8-64h). Elongation at break of goatskin matrices decreased drastically in the first 16 hours irradiation and then reached a platform. The hydrothermal shrinkage temperature and thermal degradation activation energy increased at the beginning and decreased after longer time irradiation. The water vapour transmission rate of goatskin matrices increased obviously after irradiating for 4-64 hours, following a decrease after 2 and 4 hours UV irradiation. UV irradiation resulted in a continuous decrease in sample dimensions. Scanning electron microscopy observation showed that. UV irradiation induced crack and loss of skin tone. ATR-FTIR spectra of goatskin collagen showed that the positions of Amide A and Amide II bands shifted to lower wavenumbers due to the UV irradiation. It indicated that phototransformation had occurred during UV irradiation and exerted dramatic influence on the structure and properties of goatskin collagen matrices.
