Recent research studies have been aimed at improving the resistance of coatings against such degradation using nanomaterials. Recently the uses of graphene nano-flake rein forcements in polymeric coatings have been extensively investigated by many scientists to achieve such improvements. It has been postulated that graphene can act as a strong blocking agent and increase the resistance of coatings against UV light, moisture, oxygen, and so on. Electrochemical studies, mechanical studies have been carried out by many researchers to investigate the functional properties of graphene in coatings. The present review addresses the work done on graphene based coatings to study its performance in protective coatings. Note de contenu : - Graphene based epoxy coatings

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Solvent-borne epoxy coatings dominate the marine, petrochemical and infrastructure protective coatings markets. However, current lower VOC epoxy formulations may have high viscosity, poor spray application and reduced corrosion resistance. A novel low viscosity epoxy can provide ultra-high solids coatings with improved sprayability and excellent corrosion resistance. The global marine and protective formulated coating market in 2010 was valued at US$ 12 billion [1]. This market is dominated by the use of epoxy resin systems with a 60 % market share due to the inherent need for corrosion resistance and durability. Polyurethanes, in second place, hold only a 14 % market share.
However, there is still a need for new materials to address the limitations of epoxies. For example, standard epoxy resins are very viscous (or solid) and therefore require a significant amount of organic solvent to achieve sprayable paint viscosities and facilitate application onto substrates.Note de contenu : - Coating formulation and preparation

Protective coatings technology has evolved to minimise the impact on health, safety and environment, through the elimination of hazardous substances, the introduction of coating systems with longer service lives, coating systems compatible with alternative methods of surface preparation and reduction of VOCs to ensure compliance with increasingly stringent air regulations.
Further legislation will continue to challenge the protective coatings industry. Manufacturers will have to invest in the reformulation and development of coating systems to meet these challenges. Users will have to invest in alternative methods of surface preparation and application. As whole the protective coating sector must show initiative and be proactive in involving itself in the legislative processes in order to defend its market.Note de contenu : - Current and future legislation

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Heat-sealing coatings are thermoplastic materials that can be applied on to a suitable substrate and later reactivated by heat and pressure. Different products are available on the market based on solventborne, waterborne, hot-melt and extrusion technology. Solvent & waterborne heat seal coatings can be applied as liquid coatings white some coatings can also be applied as a hot melt coating via gravure, slotted die, or extrusion processes.
Some of the important properties to be considered for selection of heat seal coatings are adhesion to the substrate on which the coating is applied, hot-tack, sealing window, ultimate seal strength, ability to seal through contamination, seal integrity & food contact compliance in case of packaging of food products. The seal strength also depends on the line speed, the substrate being bonded, and the heat seal coating thickness.
The heat seal coatings can be designed to provide a dead seal or a peelable seal.
Depending on the end application. The spectrum of applications of heat seal coatings is very wide covering lidding dairy products, condiments to high end applications such as ovenable containers, in-mold labelling, retortable and medical packaging e.g pharmaceutical blister packaging, peelable medical packaging, etc.
The present paper discusses the technology and applications of the heat seal coatings.Note de contenu : - WHAT IS A HEAT SEAL ? : Types of heat seal coatings - Essential features of all heat seal coatings
- TYPICAL HEAT SEALING PROCESS : The heat-sealing process consists of three steps - Different seal strengths can be achieved - Types of seals - Thermoplastics resins to give sal ability - Additives - Appearance/stirring
