Surfaces antimicrobiennesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Studies have shown that the wings of dragonflies and cicadas prevent bacterial growth due to their natural structure. The surfaces of their wings are covered in nanopillars making them look hke a bed of nails. When bacteria come into contact with these surfaces, their cell membranes get ripped apart immediately and they are killed. This inspired researchers from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) of A*STAR in Singapore to invent an anti-bacterial nano coating for disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles, tables and lift buttons. This technology will prove particularly useful in creating bacteria-free surfaces in places like hospitals and clinics, where sterilisalion is important to help control the spread of infections. Their new research was recently published in the journal Small. Note de contenu : - Need for a better way to disinfect surfaces

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Exterior railcar coatings will continue to require the correct balance of cost, long-term performance and productivity, while meeting current environmental regulations. DTM epoxy and acrylic coatings have provided this balance for railcar owners for many years.
However, owners more concerned with the long-term aesthetics of their railcars typically require a multi-coat epoxy/PUR systems for the added UV resistance provided by the PUR topcoat. These multicoat systems can now be replaced with a DTM PAS coating system to reduce cost and improve productivity without having to sacrifice the long-term performance.
This study documented the 15yr field performance of DTM PAS coatings versus an epoxy/PUR system. Both coatings systems have performed exceptionally well, exhibiting less than 0.1% rusting and are expected to last a total life cycle of 20-25yr before repainting. DTM PAS provides the required long-term performance af a two-coat system at a lower total applied cost. Compared to DTM epoxies and acrylics, DTM PAS is expected to provide 2-2.5x the coating life, which could remove two full painting cycles. Railcar owners will need to balance the removal of painting cycles versus the increased material cost of DTM PAS versus epoxies and acrylics.

- Degré d'efficacité de la protection antirouille, de 10 à 1 ;

SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion resistance and active protection performance of organic coatings can be improved by incorporation of corrosion inhibitor-loaded nanocontainers. Herein, 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (FTES) as a green corrosion inhibitor was encapsulated in hollow mesoporous silica (HMS). FTES-loaded HMS (FHMS) was embedded in an epoxy coating on the surface of the magnesium (Mg) alloy. Artificial defect in FHMS-loaded epoxy coating was made by needle punching. The long-term anticorrosion behavior and self-healing properties of the modified coating were evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). In all cases, FHMS can enhance corrosion resistance of the epoxy coating. Among all the FHMS-loaded coatings, the coating containing 0.5 wt% FHMS (FHMS-0.5%) still exhibits excellent corrosion protection performance after 2688 h of immersion. Meanwhile, it shows superior self-healing ability in the scratched areas. These are attributed to the fact that FTES released from HMS nanoparticles can interact with the epoxy coating and the Mg alloy substrate. Moreover, FTES silane can also form a crosslinked Si-O-Si network by itself. Intumescence (chimie)

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A fireproof composition based on ammonium polyphosphate and pentaerythritol with a number of functional additives was developed and studied. The additives are able to form a protective char during fire exposure below the thermal decomposition temperature of the polymer composites. The decrease in the char formation temperature of the fire-protective coating provides a molar excess of ammonium polyphosphate with respect to the mole fractions of pentaerythritol and aluminum hydroxide. Introducing the latter in the composition of the flame-retardant coating also contributes to the decrease in the char formation temperature. The fire-protection coating can be used to protect various combustible materials, e.g., wood, laminates, plastics, etc. DOI : 10.1007/s11998-019-00221-6 En ligne : https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007%2Fs11998-019-00221-6.pdf Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=33019
