Titre : Effect of accelerated ageing on the physical and chemical properties of chrome-free leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. Li, Auteur ; Y. Z. Wang, Auteur ; Z. H. Shan, Auteur ; M. Yang, Auteur ; W. Li, Auteur ; H. L. Zhu, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p. 19-24 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Tannage Résumé : With the expansion of market demand for chrome-free leathers, much attention has been paid to the safety in using them. Four kinds of chrome-free upper leathers made by Vegetable-Glutaraldehyde (Veg-GA), Glutaraldehyde-Vegetable (GA-Veg), Vegetable-Aluminium (Veg-AI) and a synthetic agent were subjected to accelerated ageing by hot air, UV light and Xe lamp respectively for 96 hours. The physical qualities and chemical indicators of these leathers before and after ageing, such as the shrinkage temperature (Ts), tensile strength, tear strength, colour difference, water vapour permeability, formaldehyde, phenol and aniline were tested. It was shown that some common rules apply to the four kinds of chrome-free upper leather samples after ageing, Xe-lamp ageing has made the tear strength, formaldehyde and phenol levels reduce the most and the aniline level increased the most. UV-light ageing has caused the maximum colour difference change whist hot-air ageing has caused the maximum Ts decrease. All of the ageing methods have enhanced the water vapour permeability. Summarising, leather samples made differently have different physical quality indicators after the same ageing treatment. As the basis of the leather quality change, it is found that the leather fibre turns into a bundle, curled, loose and distorted no matter what kind of ageing treatment is used. Porosimétrie d'écoulement capillaireIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The unique fibrous arrangement and architectural marvel of collagen in skin matrix are the basis for various physical properties of leather. Air permeability is one of the unique features of skin, which makes the leather matrix superior to synthetic materials. In leather manufacturing finishing process determines the air permeability of the final leather. Therefore, knowledge of the impact of different finishing auxiliaries on the permeability of leather may helpful in selecting an appropriate finishing system for a particular type of leather. In this work, an attempt has been made to analyze the effect of various auxiliaries used in protein, acrylic and polyurethane (PU) based finish coatings on the air permeability of leather. Capillary flow porometer was used to monitor the air permeability (Flow rate cc/sec) at different pressures (psi). The results show that the effect of wax/filler/slip and dye solution on air permeability reduction is low when compared to pigment and binder. In protein and PU finishes, the binder alone and season (combination of all finishing auxiliaries like pigment, binder, and other auxiliaries) has a strong influence on permeability reduction whereas in case of an acrylic based finish, the pigment and binder plays an important role in permeability reduction. Leather coated solely with protein binder shows minimal permeability reduction than compared to leather coated with acrylic or polyurethane binders, whereas in season, acrylic based finishing has a lower permeability profile than that of protein and PU. In that case the permeability profile of protein and PU season coated leathers is almost similar. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Permeability measurements - Measurement of film thickness

Procédés de fabricationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A series of polypropylene hollow fiber membranes was fabricated by melt-spinning and stretching. The crystalline behavior and hard elasticity of precursor hollow fibers were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), elastic recovery and strain-stress curves. The structure and properties of membranes were investigated in detail by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy, pure water flux, and so on. The results showed that membranes with excellent structure and properties can be obtained at a spin-draw rate of 350 m/min and a stretching ratio of 200 %. The evolution of crystal structure was explored during the annealing and stretching processes by two-dimensional small-angle X-ray scattering (2D-SAXS). Shish-kebab structure was obtained during annealing for hollow fibers at a spin-draw rate of 350 m/min. The crystalline lamellae were destroyed and micropores were formed during the fabrication of membranes by stretching. Tannage Résumé : Test results of semi-finished crust made from wet-blue are presented. Mineral, synthetic, vegetable and aldehyde tannins were used as retanning agents. Absorption, desorption and permeability of water vapour (WVP) were determined using the standardised method and UTH Radom method. Softness, shrinkage temperature and resistance to water of the semi-finished crust were determined as well. The tests have demonstrated that the hygienic properties of leathers are to a great degree dependent on types of retanning agents applied. Correlations have also been proved between permeability of water vapour (WVP) and between WVP and shrinkage temperature of crust leathers as per the standard and UTH Radom methods.

Structures multicouchesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This work studies the effects of uniaxial stretching on molecular orientation, crystallinity, crystallography and oxygen permeability of high barrier multilayer films based on EVOH barrier layer. Film samples were prepared using two different blow-up ratios (BUR) of 1 and 3. Uniaxial stretching was applied at 100°C using a tensile machine equipped with an environmental chamber. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to examine the molecular orientation in the EVOH layer before and after stretching and confirmed a considerable increase in the molecular orientation in the EVOH layer. Dynamic scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD) results point to the perfection of EVOH crystal structure by applying uniaxial stretching at high temperatures. Oxygen permeability results showed a considerable 25% decrease after stretching of the sample with lower BUR while a significant 80% reduction in oxygen permeability was observed for the sample prepared at higher BUR. The mechanism involved in increasing oxygen permeability due to the uniaxial stretching at high temperature is discussed in detail.
