Concerns on the use of isocyanates as starting materials for polyurethanes (PUs) have risen due to their effects on human health after exposure and also because their synthesis involves the use of phosgene. Polyurethanes are highly versatile materials used in widespread industries such as automotive, building, construction, and packaging. They have also been used as flexible and rigid foams, adhesives, coatings, thermoplastic, or thermoset materials. Traditionally, PUs are synthesized from polyols and polyisocyanates. In order to circumvent the concerns, much research has been devoted to exploring alternative approaches to the synthesis of PUs. NIPU synthesis using cyclic carbonates and amines has gained popularity as one of the new approaches. In this study, novel bio-based resins were synthesized by converting epoxidized sucrose soyate into carbonated sucrose soyate (CSS) under supercritical conditions. Initial studies have shown promise in systems where CSS is crosslinked with multifunctional amines generating coatings with good solvent resistance. This work focused on studying the effect of catalysts and developing formulations of bio-based non-isocyanate polyurethane coatings. Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : To prevent air entrapment and foaming, defoamers are usually added to water-borne coating formulations. Defoamer performance was studied by capturing high resolution images of a coating sprayed on glass substrates. Image analysis provided a quantitative measure of the efficacy of additives. Surprisingly, the most effective product was a non-ionic wetting agent rather than a defoamer. Note de contenu : - Surface tension measurement procedure

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the past major focus during construction and maintenance of industrial plant was primarily on process equipement and the material of construction. The concrete structure and flooring was considered less critical. However in current scenario, floorings in plant are integral part of many operations. Limitations of concrete flooring are dust accumulation, porosity, cracks, alkalinity, microbial growth, laitance, efflorescence, and poor chemical resistance. To overcome these limitations and provide a sound surface, various protective coatings are in use. Protective coating in majority are self-levelling floor coatings based on epoxy and polyurethane chemistry. Self-levelling epoxy flooring is known for its high adhesion, hardness and initial gloss, however, poor in flexibility, scratch resistance and gloss retention. The advantage of polyurethane coating over epoxy coating is because of its flexibility, scratch resistance and durability. Note de contenu : - MARKET LANDSCAPE

Revêtements décoratifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author explains how a woodstain mixing system and a little skill can together create individual design finishes for indoor wooden surfaces.
Special effect coatings such as marbled, speckled or water droplet patterns give an individual design to indoor wooden surfaces.
With the introduction of 15 special effect coatings, the range of Glasurit products for furniture, doors and interior woodwork is now complete.
The basis for simple handling is a woodstain mixing system in which an additive is added to a PU base coat. The PU coating technology provides special effect coatings with a high level of resistance stress.
Suitable substrates are chiefly MDF, chipboards and melamine resin or urea resin-coated base foils. Surfaces should be sanded carefully before coating and after applying a polyurethane universal primer.
To obtain an optimal assessment of the surface effect on the respective substrate and in the ambient situation, it is recommended that a trial coating be applied. However, one must not forget that the exclusiveness of these coatings depends on the imagination, skill and technique of the user.Note de contenu : - Marbled effect

Different driving forces behind the development of better and more efficient process have brought dramatic changes over last 100 years.
Number of applied coatings layers has been reduced to 3 layers. The latest development of wet on wet coating technology coating machines automatic cleaning process the time taken for the body painting reduced to 8 hr.
Emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) is main problem for coating industry considering the fact increase in the solid content which increase covering capacity of coating and decrease in solvent content in solvent borne formula is implemented the relative increase of solid by 20% generated completely new technology i.e. High solid technology.Note de contenu : - VOC REDUCTION DATA FROM YEAR 1965 TO 2005
