ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ensuring proper adhesion between energy-curable coatings and non-absorptive substrates has long been a significant challenge. Whether it’s high shrinkage seen with the coating itself or low surface energy of the substrate’s surface, multiple factors can negatively influence the adhesion properties of a finished formulation. Past solutions to overcome these various hurdles have included the use of pretreated substrates and the addition of solventborne adhesion promoters. However, escalating costs, increased processing times, and regulatory concerns have forced formulators to start searching for alternate solutions. This paper discusses the incorporation of specialty co-binder resins to improve adhesion onto difficult plastic substrates. Because these novel adhesion promoters are solvent-free, low viscosity, and widely compatible, formulators can tackle the industry’s problem without compromising the performance of their energy-curable coatings. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Adhesives are critical to our everyday lives. In 1994 alone, 150 million pounds of adhesives will be dispensed in the automotive industry (1). Ford's new AIV (Aluminum Intensive Vehicle) relies on adhesives to make it sound. Henry Cornille, vehicle structures engineering specialist at Ford, claims "benefits include greater stability and less vibration - ultimately a quieter ride."(2)
Adhesives riser in automobiles are only a small part of the industry. Adhesives are everywhere. Even bread and potato chip bags are actually two or three layers of plastic with adhesives in between.
The number of these adhesives products, their physical properties and the metering pump requirements are the focus of this article. All adhesives need to be dispensed in some form.
Whether they are single or multi-component, thin as water, or heavier than mud, dispensing equipment is used. The article is first look at the physical and compositional properties of adhesives and their effects on dispensing equipment. The various metering pumps will be reviewed, and their ability to handle material properties will be discussed. The article will conclude with a cross referenced chart covering additional resin parameters and how they affect machine design(Tables IV and V).Note de contenu : - MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND COMPOSITION : Viscosity - Specific gravity - Working life - Moisture sensitivity - Corrosiveness - Fillers
