Titre : Relationships between crystallization behavior and application properties of chemically coupled PAI-PTFE coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michaela Genan-Smolka, Auteur ; Dieter Jehnichen, Auteur ; Mikhail Malanin, Auteur ; Thomas Schmidt, Auteur ; Anne Marschner, Auteur ; Antje Schneider, Auteur ; Michael Göbel, Auteur Année de publication : 2024 Article en page(s) : p. 623-654 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Structure cristalline (solide)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) is well known for its very low friction coefficient and thus widely used for antifriction applications, e.g., sliding lacquers, for many years. Because of the high wear rate and cold flow of the original polymer, PTFE is usually added in higher amounts to other polymer matrices as a lubricant. However, the incompatibility of PTFE requires lots of efforts to perform a homogeneous breaking down of agglomerates and particle distribution as well as dispersion stabilization of the physical mixtures during application and curing. PTFE can be functionalized by high energy irradiation and subsequently compatibilized with a polymer matrix by reactive extrusion resulting in chemical bonding of both polymers via suitable reactive groups. In this manner, poly(amide imide) (PAI) was coupled to γ-radiation modified PTFE micro-powder prior to the dispersion procedure. This study deals with the thermal and crystallization behavior of the PTFE lubricant in chemical bonded (cb) PAI-PTFEcb compound thin layers in comparison with those of the plain radiation modified PTFE depending on the cooling rate by DSC, Flash-DSC and WAXS. A morphological characterization of the extrudate as well as the coating gives information about the fragmentation and distribution of the PTFE phase in the PAI matrix. Furthermore, mechanical and surface properties of sliding lacquer films were analyzed after application on steel substrates by varying dry film thickness and curing. TeintureIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Rhodamine B (RB) is frequently used in chemical sensors, where the sensing principle depends on its structural changes to lactone (L), zwitterion (Z), and cation (C) forms in response to the local environment. Compared to the Z- and C-forms, stabilising the L-form in matrices is difficult because of the required low environmental polarity. In this study, we report a simple and easy method to stabilise the L-form of RB on the surface of a polytetrafluoroethylene porous film (p-PTFE), in which the film is dipped in an ethanol solution containing RB and dried. This phenomenon was not observed on polyethylene film and cellulose filter paper in RB solutions. Furthermore, a chemical stability test for colourless RB/p-PTFE samples was conducted by exposing these samples to a humid environment. The test result indicated that, with an increase in the environmental humidity, the equilibrium shifted from the L-form to the Z-form of RB immobilised on the p-PTFE film. Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : During film fabrication, the phenomena of crack formation and delamination are often observed, dramatically hindering the discovery and characterization of new materials for energy applications. In this work, we report on a novel approach to fully steer the drying parameters or “knobs” that are commonly used during electrode manufacture. It allows us to precisely in situ control and monitor the solvent-specific evaporation rates that affect the development of suspension composition during drying. We managed to control the capillary stress inside the layer by precisely controlling the selectivity of solvent evaporation. Large cracks result when the surface tension increases over time and layer delamination occurs. When using an n-propanol/water system, critical crack formation is achieved when water is enriched by decreasing the gas exchange during drying or preloading the gas phase with water vapor. High gas exchange rates inhibit the water’s enrichment, and therefore, only small surface cracks develop. The experiments also surprisingly indicate that the drying temperature has no significant effect on crack formation. These results are of fundamental meaning for the future development of electrodes as the drying step has a high impact on the products specification and now can be ultimately controlled. The future development of electrodes will surely benefit from this achievement in the controlled fabrication of films for a variety of applications.
