Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Nanocomposites of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and CdSe were fabricated by a casting technique. The result showed that CdSe@PMMA can be used in white and green light emitting devices. 0.01CdSe@PMMA exhibits monochromatic green color emission with the highest fluorescent quantum yield and lowest optical band gap value, while CdSe@PMMA with other ratios shows a multicolor emission. The band-edge emits in the vicinity of 280 – 296 nm but a more stable intensive green color emission at 553 nm is found for 0.01CdSe@PMMA. The change in Eg (4.18 to 4.4) eV values is due to the interaction between the PMMA polymer and CdSe.
(widipedia)

Transfert radiatifIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polymer-based coatings containing metallic microparticles are a kind of functional material with effective spectral selectivity. The spectral radiative transfer model of polymer-based coatings is built based on geometrical optics, and the spectral radiative characteristics of the coatings were investigated by Monte Carlo ray-tracing method. The coatings consist of aluminum particles with different shapes as fillers and four kinds of polymer resins as binders, respectively. After verifying the reliability of the method, the effect of particle shape and binder on the infrared emission properties in the range of 8–14 μm is systematically investigated. The results demonstrate that adding flake particles into the coating can obtain lowest infrared emissivity, which is at most 86.79% lower than the coating containing spherical particles when the volume fraction is 30%. The mean emissivity of Al/acrylic resin, Al/polyetherimide (PEI), Al/polymethyl methacrylate, and Al/polystyrene (PS) composite coatings is 0.46, 0.48, 0.41, and 0.22, respectively. Al/PS composite coating has the minimum mean infrared emissivity among these four kinds of polymer-based coatings, which is 54.2% lower than Al/PEI composite coating. The method proposed in this work will provide theoretical guidance for experimental research. Note de contenu : - METHOD : Radiative transfer model - Random geometry topology structure

In this paper, morphology was deduced through cross-comparison of results from several forms of microscopy. For the combination of methyl methacrylate and alkyd, a derivative of core/shell morphology was observed through the combination of transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and spin diffusion NMR. A raspberry-like shall was found to form on the hybrid particle surface consisting of a full coverage of small (roughly 25 nm) polymethyl methacrylate spheres anchored to the particle surface through grafting with the alkyd core. Migration of the spheres to that surface is thought to be induced by phase separation, and the size of the spheres precludes their origin from homoparticles from homogeneous nucleation. Homopolymethyl methacrylate particles were also detected in the particle distribution, resulting from the aqueous-phase initiator and hydrophilicity of methyl methacrylate monomer. For copolymer/alkyd systems (either methyl methacrylate/butyl acrylate/acrylic acid/alkyd or methyl methacrylate/butyl acrylate/alkyd), more traditional core/shell morphologies were observed with a lesser degree of homonucleated particles. A significantly different result was found in the combination of butyl acrylate and alkyd, resulting in a continuous particle-phase of polylbutyl acrylate and small internally dispersed island domains of alkyd. This is likely due to the lesser incompatibility between polybutyl acrylate and alkyd along with their similar hydrophobicity and glass transition temperatures. A higher degree of grafting between the alkyd and polybutyl acrylate also contributed to the compatibility between the two components, when compared to hybrid methyl methacrylate/alkyd systems.
