The synthesized reactive diluent was utilized to formulate UV-curable wood coating. The weight fractions of reactive diluent were varied from 0 to 25% in coating formulation with constant photoinitiator concentration. The molecular structure of reactive flame retardant was evaluated by FTIR, mass spectroscopy, 31PNMR, and 1HNMR spectral analysis. The flame retardant behaviors of the cured film were evaluated from limiting oxygen index and UL-94 vertical burning test. Thermal stability was estimated from thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The effects of varying concentrations of reactive diluent on the viscosity of the formulation along with optical, mechanical, and chemical resistance properties of coatings were evaluated. The gel content, water absorption behavior, and stain resistance of coatings were also studied. The paper describes some important routes of developing liquid epoxy resin from Cardanol which can be made UV curable by converting into acrylates using bio based reactive diluent based on ricinolic acid(castor oil). Hence the developed product is solvent free and used for high solids coating minimizing the environmental pollution. This dark brown-colored viscous liquid obtained from shel Is of the cashew nut can be utilized fora number of polymerization reactions due to its reactive phenolic structure and a meta-substituted unsaturated al iphatic chain. The product can be implemented in primer coats of metal and wood replacing the conventional Bisphenol-A based epoxy system. The negative impact of BPA on human health and the environnent necessarily implies the el imination of BPA especially in food contact materials. Therefore there is an increasing interest within the chemical industry for non-harmful aromatic substituents to BPA, especially for the synthesis of epoxy polymers. Thus, cardanol could be an interesting substitute to BPA in some polymers such as epoxy polymers. Note de contenu : - Routes of cardanol epoxy synthesis

Temps de prise en gelIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effect of monofunctional, difunctional, and trifunctional reactive epoxy diluents (RDs) on curing of epoxy resins by amine hardeners was studied by DSC and oscillatory rheometry. It was determined that curing of the epoxy resins containing difunctional RD was characterized by the lowest activation energy Ea, and the cure reaction was of first order. The shortest gelation time under curing was characteristic for the epoxy resins containing difunctional RDs, while vitrification time of the cured epoxy resins containing difunctional or trifunctional RDs was similar. The use of difunctional RDs as a part of epoxy resins was the most advantageous since they facilitated curing process enabling to reach high degree of curing faster. The effect of RDs of various functionalities on glass transition temperature Tg of the cured epoxy resins and mechanical properties of the epoxy coatings was noticeable but small. Functionality of RDs had no noticeable effect on adhesion and flexibility of the epoxy coatings. Coatings of the cured epoxy resins containing difunctional RD were characterized by slightly higher hardness and increased abrasion resistance. Difunctional reactive epoxy diluents show great potential to be used in epoxy formulations by facilitating curing process and improving mechanical properties of the cured epoxy coatings.
