The ratio of epoxy monomer to curing agent was taken as 2. Two different molecular weights of silicone acrylates were used in various ratios for the modification of the system. The mechanical characterisation and hardness measurements of these samples were performed. As the siloxane content in the epoxy resin system was increased, Young’s modulus and hardness decreased. Further, the strength at Fmax, toughness and percentage elongation showed a maximum of about 10% for one kind of PDMS containing epoxy system. Thermal characterisations of the samples were determined with a thermogravimetric analyzer. The decomposition of the samples was a two-stage process with maximum weight loss rates in between 320 to 400°C or 330 to 430°C°C, depending on the molecular weights of PDMS modifier. The SEM photographs of the cold-fractured samples were taken. As the siloxane content in the epoxy resins was increased, the fractured surfaces became rougher and showed more irregular stripes in the matrix. These prepolymers were mixed in different proportions to modify the properties of an optical fiber coating. The relationships of component-property and structure-property of the mixture coatings were studied. When the proportion was SA:UA:EA=5:4:3, it was used for a single coating, however, the proportion SA:UA:EA=6:5:2 was used for a primary buffer coating. These mixture coatings were applied to optical fibers. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Preparation of the prepolymers - Formulation of UV-curable coatings - Preparation of cured film

Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Four monomeric reactive hindered piperidinol derivatives, such as 4-methacryloyl-1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-piperidinyl (MPMP), 4-acryloyl-1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-piperidinyl (APMP), 4-methacryloyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidinyl (MTMP), and 4-acryloyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidinyl (ATMP), were applied as reactive hindered amine light stabilizers (r-HALS) in UV-curable coatings. The effect of r-HALS on the UV-curing kinetics of the UV-curable coatings of different monomers or oligomers has been previously investigated. Polymer coatings were prepared by means of UV-curing technology; experiments were conducted manually on photoaging indoors, monitoring the Yellowness Index (YI) in the photooxidation process, and adding r-HALS. The experiments were done to review its photoprotection effect on UV-cured coatings. Subsequently, they were compared with typical commercial HALS through parallel experiments to investigate the photooxidation aging mechanism of polymer coatings, and the effective concentration was determined from the changing circumstances of YI, thus comparing their differences in photostabilizing effect in situ of the polymer coatings. Note de contenu : - BACKGROUND

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper describes surface modification of commercial nanosilica with 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) and its effect on the properties of UV curable coatings. The mercapto groups were grafted onto nanosilica surface by a condensation of the surface Si–OH with the hydrolysized Si–OH of MPTMS. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and particle size distribution were employed to characterize nanosilica and modified nanosilica. It was demonstrated that the mercapto groups were successfully grafted onto the nanosilica surface with the grafting ratio of 16.8% and the mercapto groups content of 0.9 mmol/g. The dispersion and self-aggregation of nanosilica in UV curable coatings were improved significantly. The photopolymerization kinetics of UV curable coatings, containing various amounts of nanosilica and modified nanosilica, were evaluated by the photo differential scanning calorimetry technique. This indicated that nanosilica both before and after modification decreased UV curing speed and ultimate percentage conversion; however, in comparison with the coatings containing unmodified nanosilica, the coatings containing modified nanosilica exhibited higher curing speeds and conversion ratios. It can be ascribed that the mercapto groups on the nanosilica surface reduced oxygen inhibition during the UV curing process via the thiol–ene click reaction. The mechanical properties of UV curable coatings were also compared.
