Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : How radiation curing, both ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam (EB), can provide printed packaging with desired final properties without the bulk removal of solvent or water from a liquid formulation that forms a final coating product.
In the radiation curing process, UV light waves or high energy electrons impinge on the components of the formulated coating or ink to initiate the chemical reactions that form a crosslinked network of bonds between the components. Any components that do not react to incorporate into the polymer network are trapped within it ; however, they have the potential to migrate from the coating with exposure to heat, contact with similar materials or over time. Even though these components are minute constituents of the final film, they can migrate causing odour and impacting the coating performance. In certain applications,chemicals that can be released are regulated and need to be strictly controlled.
Figure 1 depicts a schematic of the liquid formulation containing monomers, oligomers and photoinitiator. After the cure reaction, many of the components are chemically bound. Residual monomer and photoinitiator molecules can remain unbound in the coating. Reactive end groups may still be present but bound to the polymer network through a different end of the molecule.
The strategies employed to create the desired look or performance of the coating or ink can often be in conflict with strategies to control the migration of materials in the final product. Considered selection of formulation components and the radiation curing system allow for both parts of the final product specification to be maintained.Note de contenu : - Photoinitiator considerations

In the quest for a more environmentally compliant coating, a number of new technologies have become available from coatings manufacturers. One field of study that has gained interest is that of radiation curable products initiated by either ultraviolet light (UV) or electron beam (EB). Ultraviolet light curable coatings are one component systems that combine the benefits of rapid film formation and low VOC into high quality coatings. This paper will discuss cationic and free radical polymerization, types of photoinitiators, toxicology, application, and potential markets. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The market for wood paints is growing strongly, particularly in Asian regions, where, in the Far East, Indonesia, China, Malaysia and Vietnam represent the four biggest exporters of wood furniture. The growing export volume of wood furniture gives rise to an icreasing demand for easy-to-process, high quality wood coatings. In addition, new developments should offer lowest possible content of environmentally harmful volatile organic solvents.
UV curing wood paints offer an environnementally friendly alternative to conventional nitrocellulose-based coatings or acid curing lacquers. Binders are products that rapidly undergo radiation induced polymerisation and cure in a fraction of a second.
In addition, they offer advantages with respect tohigh throughput rates, outstanding film properties and economics in space, energy and material requirements. The coatings also distinguish themselves by improved scratch and wear resistance compared with conventional systems.
The objective of the present study was to assess the influence of functional fillers upon the mechanical and optical properties of UV curing coatings systems. This was done by comparing Neuburg Siliceous Earth (Neuburger Kieselerde) with a commercial matting, as well as their blends in a topcoat on an aliphatic urethane acrylate.Note de contenu : - UV curing topcoat based on an aliphatic urethane acrylate

QuinonesLes quinones constituent une série de diènes plutôt que des composés aromatiques comportant un noyau de benzène sur lequel deux atomes d'hydrogène sont remplacés par deux atomes d'oxygène formant deux liaisons carbonyles (dicétones éthylèniques conjuguées cycliques).
Les quinones sont des transporteurs d'électrons dans la membrane mitochondriale interne et dans la membrane des thylakoïdes.
Les principales quinones sont : la benzoquinone ou quinone (C6H4O2), découverte en 1838 par Wosrerenski, chimiste polonais, dont on utilise les propriétés rédox dans la technique de développement photographique. C'est l'un des deux isomères de la cyclohexadienedione. L'orthobenzoquinone est la 1,2-dione, alors que la parabenzoquinone, est la 1,4-dione.
Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article represents work done on photoinitiators to enhance and upgrade the conventional mechanism of UV curable coatings. Hybrid organic—inorganic macro photoinitiator bearing pendant tertiary amine groups (0I-AH) was prepared by hydrolytic condensation of a silane containing amino groups. The macromolecular amino-functionalized photo-initiator was used in combination with Carnphor Quinone (CQ) for visible-light photo-polymerization. The evolution of monomer conversion versus irradiation time showed that the 0I-AH are efficient co-initiator of CQ because a fast reaction and hie, conversion result after 60 s irradiation with a LED source of 600 mW/cm2.
Polymerizable organosilicon macromolecular photo-initiator HHMP-Si-CC not only spontaneously form a
concentration gradient in the photo-polymerization system, initiate gradient photo-polymerization and effectively
mitigate inhibition of oxygen, but also overcome the migration of photolysis fragments of the photo-initiator from UV-curable material. HHMP-Si-CC should have potential applications for preparing more environnnentally friendly gradient materials.
A novel polymeric photo initiator, poly (glycidyl benzophenone ether) (PGBE), with a side-chairs benzophenone (BP) group was synthesized from poly(epichlorohydrin) and 4-hydroxybenzophenone. The obvious advantage of this initiator was the elimination of amine based hydrogen donors and to provide alternative hydrogen donors with easy availability and non-toxicity. The polymeric initiator was found to have higher efficiency than BP/E AB (Ethy14- dimethylaminolbenzoate).
Polymeric benzophenone photo-initiator (PEG-BP) was synthesized basing on polyethylene glycol (PEG), succinic anhydride, 4-hydroxy benzophenone and epichlorohydrin. The obvious advantage of this initiator was the elimination of amine based hydrogen donors and to provide alternative hydrogen donors with easily availability and non toxicity. The synthesized polymeric photo-initiators are attractive to.be used as type II photo-initiators. Moreover, the water solubility of PEG provides the use of initiating system in water-borne formulations.
