ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Internal heat exchangers are often employed in solar thermal applications as well as in many other applications that involve heat, and, for the most part, consist of metallic materials (copper, stainless steel). Corrugated stainless steel tubes are easy to assemble, and are commonly used in various storage geometries. In order to significantly reduce costs, alternative materials, such as plastics, can function as excellent substitutes. Alternative heat exchangers for the following examinations using various materials and an extrusion process were produced. Subsequently, the heat exchangers were examined in regards to the heat they transfer. The heat transfer coefficient and the thermal conductivity of all materials were determined.

SilicatesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Fire is a serious threat to people and the structures they build. There is a continuous development of newer methods and materials to prevent its effects on them. Nowadays, a lot of attention is being paid in the design of public and commercial buildings by incorporating fire safety. Passive fireproofing of high-rise structures has become very important due to the use of steel in load bearing mode and has attracted increased attention after the collapse of the WTC towers. Conventional passive fireproofing materials include concrete covering, gypsum board and cementitious coatings which have a poor aesthetic. Intumescent fire-resistive coatings are a newer type of passive fireproofing coatings usually applied as thin film and they swell many times their original thickness forming an insulating char which acts as a barrier between the fire and the structural steel. It prevents the temperatures of the steel members from reaching a critical value and helps in maintaining the integrity of the structure in fire event. They are the preferred choice for passive fire protection of load bearing steel frame structures of architects and designers as they offer aesthetic appearance, flexibility, speed of application, and ease of inspection and maintenance. The present review covers recent developments in the field of intumescent coatings with a major emphasis on organic intumescent coatings. The role of various ingredients, their interactions in intumescent coatings, effects of various pigments, binders and additives are discussed briefly. Résistance de contact électriqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : While a lot of research can be found in the field of bulk resistance of carbon filled polymers, comparatively few papers focus on contact resistance between compound and metal contacts. Due to that small number of researches that deal with contact resistances, studies of the influence of injection molding conditions and parameters on the contact resistance are also very rare. In contradiction to that, these influences on bulk resistance have been studied. The objective of this work was to investigate the electrical contact resistance of overmolded tinplated copper contacts after modifying flow situations and molding conditions by procedural and constructional methods in contact areas. Metal pins were overmolded with a polypropylene compound containing 45 vol.% graphite, utilising an insert injection molding process. To affect the flow situation at the contacts, several processing parameters, such as mold temperature and injection speed, were modified. In addition, the contact alignment related to melt flow direction was varied. Electrical properties were studied and related to macroscopic and microscopic connection properties and flow situations in contact regions. It was found that the contact resistance is a significant factor while examining electrical resistances of overmolded samples. Furthermore, it was shown that the various flow situations had an essential impact on contact resistances. Weld lines at the position of the contact caused a decreased contact resistance. The correlation of the weld line effect, the filler orientation and contact resistance were successfully investigated by μ-CT. Regarding processing parameters, it was observed that a high mold temperature of 120 °C increased not only bulk conductivity, but also had a positive impact on contact conductivity. Macroscopic and microscopic connection mechanisms of contact surfaces were interpreted and connected to the experimental observations. Note de contenu : - Current status or research

Revêtements antisalissures:Peinture antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The purpose of the present study is to develop a new conductive coating for application on fishing nets that can be used as an anode, while submersed in the sea, to generate free chlorine which will in turn inhibit marine biofouling. To confirm the durability and viability of this coating, long-term field tests were carried out in the Nanao harbor in Taiwan. Electrical resistivity tests showed that polyurethane resin with carbon black and graphite can demonstrate the lowest resistivity: 0.06 Ωm. This sample also generated optimal quantities of free chlorine, which performs excellent antifouling properties. The use of carbon black in conjunction with graphite did prove to yield greater benefits. A 500-day field test showed that the PU-CG conductive coatings reduced the quantity of marine biofouling attached to the cage by approximately 79%. Furthermore, the chlorine produced was within safe levels, and judged not to pollute the sea. However, this antifouling system still shows durable problems which remain to be considered.
