RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The rheology of plastisol formulations for flooring applications using knife-over-roll coating process is studied using both Couette and capillary rheometers. The behavior is similar in many aspects to the rheology of suspensions: Shear thinning behavior at low shear rate, then a Newtonian plateau at intermediate shear rates followed by a dilatancy peak. However several abnormal phenomena may be observed in capillary experiments. At very high shear rates, a second shear thinning behavior is observed which depends on the flow geometry. Due to the non-monotonous behavior of the plastisol viscosity, this is analysed using a dedicated numerical method. An apparent slip velocity has been determined. Otherwise capillary experiments point out the existence of important entrance pressure loss. These measures are interpreted using a modified Cogswell method as an important elongationnal viscosity, around hundred times the shear viscosity.
Son objectif est de produire des biens et services tout en limitant fortement la consommation et le gaspillage des matières premières, et des sources d'énergies non renouvelables ;

les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;
PolystyrèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Whether it was the motto presented by the trade fair’s committee or threatened prohibition proceedings: material producers are getting more involved with sustainability. While some are participating in campaigns and initiatives, others are investigating more closely the basis of their raw materials and their products. In view of the challenge to create a circular economy for plastics, all other topics take second place this year. Note de contenu : - Ineos styrolution : recycling of styrene plastics

- Fig. 2 : Because of the heterogeneous feedstock, PET bottles of recycled material frequently exhibit slight discoloring - particularly noticeable on the bottle necks. Clariant is working on a masterbatch that will permit a uniform color quality

Terpolymère acrylonitrile butadiène styrèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A combined flow, thermal and structural analysis is employed to simulate post-die extrudate distortion in different profile dies. All four factors which can cause extrudate distortion, namely, non uniform exit velocity distribution, extrudate shrinkage, extrudate draw down, and deformed shape of the calibrator or sizer profile, are simulated. To analyze the effect of exit velocity variation on extrudate distortion, the parameterized geometry of a simple profile die is optimized using an extrusion die optimization software. The simulation results presented for a bi-layer profile die successfully demonstrate how gradually changing profile shape in successive calibrators/sizers can be used to simplify the die design for extrusion of complex profiles. The predicted extrudate shape and layer structure for the bi-layer die are found to accurately match with those in the extruded product. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Dispersion or emulsion paints are formulated with a variety of chemically different types of binders, which in most cases can be classified as acrylic esters copolymers or vinyl ester copolymers. A suitable binder is necessary to give a high quality paint. Experiments on masonry paints in the PVC range of 35 to 55% show that after many years of outdoor exposure no significant difference between straight acrylic and acrylic/styrene copolymers can be found. More important is the optimisation of the pigment volume concentration and the pigment/extender combination than the type of the binder.
