Over the last few years, wa heve begun to see a transition from "nanoscience", "the science of nanoeter-sied materials, toward "nanotechnology, "the multi-disciplinary integration on nanomaterials and the increasing ability to interface those materials with the macroscopic world. His overview presents specific recent advances in the use of materials of nanotechnology, lide titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate and the other al ready industrially availagle nanoparticles applied on the traditional field of the building materials.

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Silica nanoparticles, Aerosil 200, with an average primary particle size of 12 nm were chemically modified by γ-aminopropyltriethoxy silane (APS) via a two-step sol–gel process. Effects of the treatment variables including reaction temperature, water content, and silane concentration on the colloidal stability and the amount of APS grafting on the surface of nanoparticles were studied using thermal gravimetric analysis, diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy, and by monitoring the sedimentation behavior of the dispersion of nanoparticles in distilled water as a polar media. Furthermore, the effect of surface modification on the dispersibility of silica nanoparticles in an epoxy novolac coating was evaluated by means of scanning electron microscopy. The results showed chemical interactions between APS and SiO2 nanoparticles. Also, parameters including treatment at ambient temperature, low level of water, and moderate concentration of silane compound, have a considerable effect on the APS grafting content due to the increase of silane hydrolysis and higher silylation coverage of the nanoparticles. Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic and polyurethane aqueous dispersions have been used extensively in coating applications, both independently and as physical blends. The resulting coatings display a balance of properties from the inherent characteristics of acrylics and polyurethanes. Nonetheless, these properties often fall short of those predicted front the traditional rule of mixtures. In contrast, a process has been developed whereby acrylic monomers and urethane prepolymers are intimately mixed and mutually polymerized in an aqueous dispersion, thereby resulting in hybrid polymer dispersions. This process causes an interpenetrating network (IPN) of the polymers which subsequently display unique properties compared to standard acrylic, polyurethane, or macroscopically blended acrylic/urethane dispersions. These properties appear to be directly attributable to the acrylic-polyurethane hybrid morphology. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Procedures

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Aqueous dispersions of ultraviolet light (UV) curable resins have been prepared and evaluated. The physical and rheological properties of these dispersions have been determined, and the performance of these dispersions in coating systems has been studied. Coatings based on these dispersions have faster UV cure speed, better surface hardness, and better flexibility compared with coatings based on undispersed resins. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ascorbic acid was reacted with t-butyl acetoacetate under relatively mild conditions to obtain a multifunctional ?-ketoester. 1H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis showed that the high-yield desired product was obtained and with a degree of substitution between 2 and 3. This ?-ketoester was used to make a simple coatings mixture, which was, in turn, used to coat metal panels. Crosslinking was attempted using multifunctional amines, but this proved to be too rapid for any reasonable films to be made. Michael addition with multifunctional acrylates proved to be controllable by adjusting the catalyst level. The films obtained proved to have high levels of solvent resistance, high hardness, good gloss, and low impact strength. Gel content measurements and large increases in the glass transition temperature (T g) of the cured films indicated that high levels of crosslinking have been obtained.
