Four morphologies for PP/EPDM/nano-ternary composites were obtained by means of adjusting the surface tension of inorganic particles (nano-CaCO3, hydrophobic nano-SiO2 and hydrophilic nano-SiO2) and the compounding sequence (one-step extrusion and two-step extrusion). Morphological observation revealed that the segregated dispersion morphology was formed in the PP/EPDM/CaCO3 composite. For the PP/EPDM/R974 (hydrophobic nano-SiO2) composite, R974 particles were dispersed at the interface between the PP matrix and EPDM dispersed phase. A200 particles (hydrophilic nano-SiO2) continuously dispersed between PP and EPDM phase for PP/EPDM/A200 composites prepared by one-step, while were present in EPDM dispersed phase for the two-step PP/EPDM/A200 composites. The dependence of the toughness on the phase morphology of the components, especially the distribution of nanoparticles, was studied systematically. The impact strength of one-step PP/EPDM/A200 composites was pronouncedly enhanced, increasing 552 % compared to pure PP. Compared with the other three composites, the one-step PP/EPDM/A200 composites exhibits better effect of preventing crack propagation and far higher fracture energies. It is attributed to the A200 particles continuously dispersed between EPDM phase and matrix, which makes EPDM particles have better compatibility with the PP matrix and the overlapping of the stress field with A200 particles. Stabilité au stockageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Silane-modified polymers are claimed to combine the strength of polyurethanes with the weathering resistance of silicones. In addition to their high performance properties, these hybrid polymers are achieving popularity due to their solvent-free and isocyanate-free nature. Sealants based on hybrid polymers also provide good over paintability, stain resistance and excellent primerless adhesion to a wide range of substrates.
In silane-modified sealants the mineral component can represent more than 60wt % of a commercial formulation. The choice of mineral will, therefore, have an impact on the processing and ultimate performance of the sealant. This paper evaluates the performance of minerals in such sealants. Specifically, the effects of coated ground calcium carbonates on its stability, rheology and mechanical properties are reported. The potential impacts on the process route are discussed in parallel. The results demonstrate that the sealant production processes can be simplified and the properties improved through selection and control of the physical properties of the mineral.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Formulation details

The optical performance of UV-curing varnishes is key. The optimum mineral type and loading help to control the gloss level without compromising transparency, clarity or mechanical resistance. We analysed a range of fillers to assess their benefits. Note de contenu : - Cost-effective increase in mechanical strength with good matting

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The use of ultraviolet light to cure inks in the packaging printing industry has become increasingly common since it has been first developed. lndeed, the need for more visual appeal in packaging, with quicker curing rates and lower waste, has been one of the drivers behind this growth. TiO2 is the most commonly used pigment in white UV cured flexo ink due to its high refractive index providing high opacity even at thin film thickness. Unfortunately, absorbs a portion of the UV spectrum and has a detrimental effect on the curing of the ink. In addition, a high loading of TiO2 can be detrimental to the optical performance due to crowding of particles.
This paper reports how calcium carbonate, kaolin and talc can partially substitute TiO2 in UV-cured flexo inks, whilst still maintaining a high gloss and suitable opacity. In addition, the impact of extenders on the curing efficiency has been evaluated.Note de contenu : - Experimental/methodology
