For the first time polyisocyanates as well as polyacrylate polyole dispersions containing nanoparticles could be developed, yielding coatings with excellent optical properties concerning gloss and haze without compromising polymer- intrinsic properties like appearance and elasticity. The essential step in this new technology was the specific, chemical modification of the coating raw materials which polyol dispersions on the other hand. Handling was identical to standard raw materials and formulations were easy to use with existing application technology. High scratch resistance in 2K solvent and waterborne clear coat applications at loadings of 10 to 15 % silica in the film could be achieved. Additionally, the corrosion protection properties in pigmented 2K waterborne hydroprimers and topcoats could strongly be improved. ThiolsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Synthesis, characterization, and film performance of waterborne thiol–acrylate/thiol–epoxy hybrid coatings are highlighted in this article. A dimer acid-modified epoxy (DME) polyol, containing both hydroxyl and epoxy functional groups, was prepared by reacting epoxy resin (EEW = 190 g/equi) with dimer fatty acid at 2:1 molar ratio. Further, a base UV-curable polyurethane acrylate dispersion (UV-PUD), with a pendant epoxy functional group, was prepared by reacting polyol (DME), isophorone diisocyanate, and dimethylol propionic acid and end-capped with hydroxyethyl methacrylate with subsequent dispersion in water. Prepared intermediates were characterized for the parameters relevant to the study by physical, spectroscopic, and chemical methods. UV-curable thiol–acrylate/thiol–epoxy hybrid coatings were prepared by blending UV-PUD with trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (TMPMP) at four different thiol ratios (0, 0.3, 0.6, and 1.0) with respect to acrylate/epoxy groups. Cured films of the hybrid coating were identified by FTIR spectroscopy. The impact of thiol ratio on film performance was evaluated in terms of mechanical, chemical, thermal, and coating properties. The gel content measurements confirm that the addition of TMPMP increased the double bond conversion along with the epoxy group. Evaluation of cured samples shows the significant improvement in storage modulus, glass transition temperature, tensile strength, and hardness with increase in thiol ratio. The cured films possessed excellent water and acid resistance (<4%) even after 28 days of immersion. Moreover, the notable improvement was alkali resistance of cured films, i.e., as thiol ratio was increased from 0 to 1, weight loss in alkaline environment deceased from 49.5 to 4.5% after 28 days. Better properties of the thiol–acrylate/thiol–epoxy hybrid films will allow it as a potential application in low-volatile high-performance coatings. This curing process may be monitored by measuring the conversion of acrylate double bonds via spectroscopic analysis. Transmission FTIR will measure the conversion throughout the entire sample while an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) method will allow for measurement at a particular point or surface. Acrylate adhesives also exhibit a surface tack in the presence of oxygen in the air. One way to prevent inhibition is to cure the adhesive within a closed system (no exposed surface air) or blanket the reaction with nitrogen. SiliconesLes silicones, ou polysiloxanes, sont des composés inorganiques formés d'une chaine silicium-oxygène (...-Si-O-Si-O-Si-O-...) sur laquelle des groupes se fixent, sur les atomes de silicium. Sol-gel, ProcédéTags : Revêtements hybrides organiques / inorganiques - séchage UV revêtements mécanisme de guérison double Sol-gel Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A coating precursor containing both acrylate functionality and trimethoxysilane functionality was produced by reacting bisphenol-A glycerolate diacrylate with 3-isocyanatopropyltimethoxysilane. With this precursor, two different crosslinked networks can be produced. A polyacrylate network can be produced using a radiation-cure mechanism while a polysiloxane network can be produced by hydrolysis and condensation reactions involving the trimethoxysilane groups. The objective of the study was to determine the utility of this dual-cure system for generating rapid-cure coatings for corrosion protection. Coating properties were determined as a function of cure conditions. The results of the study showed that the formation of siloxane crosslinks was significantly hindered by the crosslinked network induced by the UV-curing process. Even though the overall conversion of trimethoxysilane groups to siloxane crosslinks was relatively low, coating barrier properties were significantly enhanced and coating free volume reduced. At ambient conditions, additional crosslinking occurring through siloxane bond formation increased within the first 4 days after UV-curing.
