As a low-molecular weight polymer with low viscosity, MALPB had a tendency to infiltrate into the pores and cracks in the anodic layer to fill the defects among oxides so that a compact layer could be formed after it was cured by its hardeners, as observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This compact layer, which was composed of anodic oxides integrated with solidified MALPB, possessed thickness around 0.7 μm as detected by energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The anodized, MALPB-coated AZ31B alloy exhibited enhancement in corrosion resistance superior to that separately coated by anodizing oxides or MALPB, as reflected by its much higher corrosion potentials (E ccor) and lower corrosion current density (i corr) in DC polarization tests. Based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data, we conclude that the anticorrosive performance of the composite coating can be attributed to the barrier effects provided by different layers when the electrolyte passed through the MALPB layer, compact layer, and then the inner anodic layer before it reached the surface of Mg alloy, and that among them, the compact layer acted as a much more effective barrier to the electrolyte. The appearance of damaged areas on the composite coating surface after a much longer duration in a salt spray environment revealed that the life-span of the AZ31B Mg alloy could be greatly prolonged if the pores and cracks on the anodizing films were properly sealed by suitable polymers. A formulating practice using commercially available hydroxyl-functional polyurethane dispersions combined with hydrophilically modified polyisocyanate resins enables compositions to be made that are suitable for spray application, have drying properties useful for aircraft workers, and cure to form films with the specified resistance and flexibility properties.

(Wikipedia)

Revêtement en phase solvant:Peinture en phase solvantIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two modern electrochemical methods in the preliminary investigation of zinc-free anticorrosive pigments are described, namely electrochemical rest potential analysis, and electrochemical noise analysis. This techniques are used to examine the usefulness of aluminium and magnesium pigments in a styrene-acrylate copolymer emulsion. The results, which can be more rapidly obtained than those using traditional techniques such as the salt spray test, are then verified by comparison with the outcomes of salt spray testing. The most successful pigment is then tested successfully for applicability in solventborne alkyd and epoxy resin formulations, using the salt spray test for a duration of three weeks. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) assigns a grade of “D+” to the grid infrastructure and ranked its aging and condition the Number One challenge to reliability, both in likelihood of occurrence and potential severity. An unreliable electric grid will have significant negative impact both from an economic and security aspect. The direct cost to the grid from corrosion alone is some $700 million annually with indirect costs much higher. Note de contenu : - Contractor qualifications
