Effect of SEBS-g-MA on rheology, morphology and mechanical properties of PET/HDPE blends in INTERNATIONAL POLYMER PROCESSING, Vol. XXX, N° 1 (03/2015)

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The effects of additive styrene/ethylene-butylene/styrene copolymer grafted with maleic anhydride (SEBS-g-MA) were investigated on the rheology, morphology and mechanical properties of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/high density polyethylene (HDPE) blend. The ratio of the two components was changed in small increments to track phase inversion. The rheology measurements show that SEBS-g-MA acts differently on HDPE and PET, as different morphologies are formed due to viscosity ratio change. With the help of electron microscopy various phases after extrusion and after injection molding were revealed and identified. Because of the high viscosity of HDPE the co-continuous morphology was immediately formed when PET reached 30 vol%. The range of the co-continuous structure of the blend was wider when SEBS-g-MA was added, and the elongation at break also improved as additive content increased, without a significant strength decrease. The divergence of the mechanical properties from the theoretical value, i.e. the value determined by the mixing rule, can be explained by the changing phase structure. Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The effect of fiber cross-sectional shape on the structure and properties of polyester (PET) yarns have been investigated by the selection of partially oriented polyester yarn (PET POY), which was produced under the same spinning conditions through different spinnerets in a melt spinning plant. The only difference between the fibers are the cross-sectional shapes of spinneret. The different cross-sectional shapes were selected for the experimental work viz. circular, hollow, trilobal, octalobal and delta. The specialty spinnerets which produced yarn will be considered for different applications in carpets and home textiles, whereas circular cross-section yarn will be considered for denim fabric manufacturing. The major difference within the cross-sectional shapes are influenced due to their modulus, higher strain, yield stress, and boiling water shrinkage. No effects on the crystallinity and higher stress were deter¬mined. It was found that 350/96 PET POY shows improved results with circular cross-section at all stages. Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The sticking of postmortem salmon to the container wall surface protected by polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer was evaluated. The study focused on the effects of biochemical changes of postmortem salmon on the coating and how muscle degradation inside the food can, resulting from the thermal treatment and storage, favor sticking to the food container. The experimental design consisted of a set of manufactured food cans stored for up to fourteen months which were submitted to chemical and physical tests of food-contact canning to evaluate the sticking, and to treatment with urea solution to minimize the amount of muscle residues. The characterization of changes in the multilayer was performed by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The degradation of the muscle–polymer system was evaluated by Fourier transform infrared, Raman, and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. The results showed the existence of denatured muscle proteins firmly sticking to the PET surface over time and the adverse effects of urea leading to chemical changes and molecular rearrangements in the polymer coating altering its functionality as a protective layer in canned salmon, limiting thereby the potential use of PET as a recyclable input in other applications. Transmission lumineuseIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filaments were produced by adding various weight percentages of TiO2 at the draw ratios of 3.5 and 4.0, respectively. The effect of TiO2 on visual shielding property of the PET filaments was investigated by the spectroscopy measurement. The results indicate that the light reflectance of the PET filaments shows a rising trend and the light transmittance decreases with the increase of the TiO2 weight percentage at both the draw ratios, which facilitates the enhancement of visual shielding property effectively. Furthermore, the variations of the light reflectance and light transmittance are more obvious when the TiO2 weight percentage ranges from 0-3 wt.% compared with those within the TiO2 weight percentage of 3-9 wt.%, suggesting that the improvement of the visual shielding property slows clown as the weight percentage of TiO2 increases.
Index. décimale : 677.47 Non cellulosiques : Nylon, acryliques, polyesters, vinyles Résumé : Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filaments were produced by adding various weight percentages of TiO2 at the draw ratios of 3.5 and 4.0, respectively.
