The theoretical effects of pH on the suspension stability of china clay in water were evaluated, and practical (centrifuge) tests were used to determine the effects of adding different molecular weights of the polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) at constant pH. Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The inorganic treatment of commercially available titanium dioxide pigments determines to a large extent which type of wetting and dispersing additive will work best for that individual pigment type. For basic surface treatments, anionic and electroneutral additives provide the best deflocculation. For neutral surface treatments, electroneutral additives are best, while cationic additives work best with acidic SiO2- treated pigments. The isoelectric point of each pigment can be used to select the best additive. Wetting and dispersing additives provide not only a high level of pigment stabilization, but may also significantly improve the chalking resistance and durability of high-gloss topcoats. Titre : Statistical study of hydrolytic stability in amine-neutralized waterborne polyester resins as a function of monomer composition Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Travis E. Jones, Auteur ; Julia M. McCarthy, Auteur Année de publication : 1995 Article en page(s) : p. 57-65 Note générale : Bibliogr.

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Reversibility of the esterification reaction has limited the use of polyester resins in waterborne coating systems. As with other polyester resin properties, the rate of hydrolysis can be modified by choice of monomer. The objective of this study is to demonstrate changes in hydrolytic stability in waterbone polyesters as a function of change in glycol and diacid composition. In the glycol section of the study, BEPD and HPHP were compared. For the diacid section, adipic acid, isophthalic acid, and 1,4-CHDA were examined. Aqueous dispersions were subjected to storage at both ambient and elevated temperature. Response factors measured over time included molecular weight, pH, appearance, and change in properties of coatings made from the aged dispersions. Results are discussed with reference to accepted hydrolysis hydrolysis rate theories. Results show that inductively stabilized, hydrophobic monomers such as 1,4-CHDA and BEPD produce the most stable waterborne polyesters of the glycols and diacids studied. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A rotational rheometer was used to investigate the steady rheological behaviors of UV-curable waterborne hyperbranched polyurethane acrylate dispersions (WHBPUADs). The flow curves of WHBPUADs were fitted mathematically using the Cross model. The effects of many factors including solid content, concentration of hydrophilic groups, and degree of neutralization on the rheological behaviors were studied and discussed. It was found that the viscosity of WHBPUAD decreased with increasing shear rate, indicating that WHBPUAD was pseudoplastic. On the other hand, at the same shear rate, the viscosity of WHBPUAD increased with increasing solid content and degree of neutralization but decreased with increasing concentration of hydrophilic groups. The Cross model could describe the flow curve of WHBPUAD accurately, with square of correlation coefficient (R 2) above 0.9. Moreover, most of the zero-shear viscosity values (? 0) obtained by the Cross model were located in the range of 0.2–10 Pa·s, which could fully meet the practical application requirement.
