Softeners improve soft handle, smoothness, elasticity, hydrophilic, antistatic and soil release properties on textiles. Macro and micro sized silicone softeners are commonly used for these purposes but nano silicone is a new class of softener. In this research, polyester fabrics were first scoured with nonionic detergent and then treated with three concentrations of nano and micro silicone softeners in water including 10, 20 and 30 g/L at 30°C for 60 seconds by padding method. The treated fabrics were then dried/cured at 130°C for 40 seconds. The pH was maintained at 5 using acetic acid. Some of the physical and chemical properties of the treated fabric samples were discussed. The drapeability of nano emulsion treated samples was decreased compared with micro emulsion treated ones. Colorimetric properties of softener treated fabrics were evaluated with reflectance spectrophotometer. Scanning electron microscope photographs showed nano silicone particles aggregated on fiber surface. Moisture regain of nano emulsion treated samples was decreased compared with micro emulsion treated due to coating of nano silicone particles. TempératureIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The post-spinning operation has a predominant effect on the tenacity and elongation of drawn filaments. Rate of drawing at a constant temperature has an opposite effect. As the rate of drawing is low, the polymer has enough time to relax from the drawing stresses and shows low deformation behavior. As the rate of drawing is increased, the material is able to draw through the formation of a neck. At very high rates, the material may not be able to relax at ail and the build-up of elastic stresses leads to a brittle failure. The settings were done as per the standard and then optimized to check the performance of polyester filament for tenacity and elongation by changing the draw force. It had been noted that tenacity increases with an increase in D/F with reduced elongation from 2.1 to 2.93 gpd with gradually decreased elongation. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This paper addresses the role of solvent volatility on diameter selection of bicomponent polymer nanofibers produced via gas jet fibers (GJF) process whereby an axisymmetric turbulent gas jet is used for liquid jet initiation, liquid jet stretching, and solvent evaporation. Several morphological forms, such as interpenetrating network (IPN), bi-lobal, and core-shell are obtained by spinning homogeneous solutions of two immiscible polymers in two mutually miscible solvents. The diameter selection of fibers of the same morphology, e. g., bi-lobal, is achieved by spinning polymer solutions of two sets of solvents of different volatility. The results show that fiber diameter is strongly dependent on the value of vapor pressure of the solvents while the morphology is strongly dependent on the vapor pressure difference of the two respective solvents. The diameter selection by GJF process is most prominent for IPN nanofibers, moderately prominent for core-shell fibers, and almost indifferent for bi-lobal nanofibers. The relative rates of solvent evaporation are useful in interpreting the experimental trend. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : In this study, dtex 84 and polyester filament yarns were prepared with varying spinning conditions and a process was investigated and the effect of different spinning processing parameters including D/Y ratio, twist, heater temperature, winding speed, the draw ratio of fully drawn yards was studied. Finally, the tensile properties of the yarns were analyzed. The results show that the increasing winding speed process had a significant effect on the elongation CV%, U%, ans shrinkage of the yarns, but tenacity had no significant impact on yarn properties. Fully drawn yards (FDY) was produced by a process similar to POY (partially oriented yarn) manufacturing, except that the yarn is produced at higher spinning speeds coupled with intermediate drawing integrated in the process itself. This allows stabilization through orientation and crystallisation. Yarns are produced by a continuous polymerization process. All critical yarns properties such as tenacity, elongation, Uster variation and boiling water shrinkage are closely monitored and controlled. Controlled interlace enables the yarns to be twisted or sized in subsequent operations. Note de contenu : - FEATURES OF FDY

Transmission lumineuseIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filaments were produced by adding various weight percentages of TiO2 at the draw ratios of 3.5 and 4.0, respectively. The effect of TiO2 on visual shielding property of the PET filaments was investigated by the spectroscopy measurement. The results indicate that the light reflectance of the PET filaments shows a rising trend and the light transmittance decreases with the increase of the TiO2 weight percentage at both the draw ratios, which facilitates the enhancement of visual shielding property effectively. Furthermore, the variations of the light reflectance and light transmittance are more obvious when the TiO2 weight percentage ranges from 0-3 wt.% compared with those within the TiO2 weight percentage of 3-9 wt.%, suggesting that the improvement of the visual shielding property slows clown as the weight percentage of TiO2 increases.
