VêtementsIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Chemistry brings new functions or allows the combination of several functions, on the textile and fibrous materials. Diversification of products allows the satisfaction of new needs in application like sport, safety in severe atmosphere, hygiene and health.
End-use functions which are wished by the consumers find an answer inthe performances of the fibers and of their treatments : high mechanical and thermal strength, hydrophobic/hydrophilic character, waterproor andbreathable function, antibacterial character. Each performance is due to a specific molecular behaviour : macromolecular chain orientation, paracristalline structure, high surface energy, selectivity of the chemical function reactivities.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyvinyl butyral is used in safety glass interlayers, mainly in car windshields. Legislative regulations require a recycling of cars after their lifetime and therefore also their safety glass. This causes the availability of recycled polyvinyl butyrate (r-PVB) originated from safety glass interlayers. Due to deteriorated optical properties, such as the transparency, and unknown amounts of plasticizers, it is challenging to reuse the recycled material in new windshields. Therefore, it is of particular interest to find new fields of application for r-PVB, such as the usage as a textile coating. In this research, r-PVB was investigated as a material for yarn coating. Polyester and polyamide mono- and multifilament yarns were coated continuously with solely a polymer dispersion and with mixtures of crosslinking agent and polymer dispersion. Crosslinked r-PVB coatings showed enhanced properties toward abrasion and chemical resistance. Coatings without the crosslinking agent showed a diminished abrasion resistance and could be washed off with ethanol. Mechanical properties of the monofilaments were influenced by the r-PVB coating in general. However, varying concentrations of the crosslinking agent did not affect the mechanical properties. (Wikipedia)

PolysulfonamidesIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Polysulfonamide and aramid have a wide range of applications in heat-resistant materials areas, but now the lack of effective distinguishing methods has seriously influenced the normal textiles trade. Textile fiber identification is based on a variety of fiber physical, chemical and other properties, and through comparing with the standard picture, standard spectra and standard data it could be used to identify the type of unknown fiber. This paper describes the physical and chemical properties of polysulfonamide and aramid, such as surface morphology, aggregation structure, thermal properties and so on, and it is found that infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and birefringence are effective distinguishing methods for these high-performance fibers. The influences of irradiation dose on the properties of treated UHMWPE fibers were measured. The results show that as the irradiation dose increased, the gel content first rose and then declined; the breaking strength decreased continuously ; the elongation at break increased at first and then decreased ; and the creep rate originally fell and then rose, finally declining stowly. The melting point and crystallinity decreased slightly. Note de contenu : - Materials and chemicals
